Crazy 2025 price rises on BA. Who else?

I’m trying to book my flight for September next year. London Heathrow to Johannesburg. I usually fly BA or Virgin. BA are currently showing prices 40% up on this year. Virgin haven’t announced their schedules and prices yet. So my question is this:

What airlines, apart from BA and Virgin, will carry firearms from Heathrow?

I’ve previously taken a train to Manchester to fly on Lufthansa but I’m not doing that again!

Any suggestions gratefully received, because those BA prices are outrageous!

I would say probably to try Quatar and Emirates but Virgin flew direct to Jo’burg so would be my first choice
I would most definitetly say yes to Quatar, have used them at least three times, have flown with Virgin better service than BA, so yes worth to check out, as far as I am aware at the moment Quatar and Emirates are not charging the prices BA are.

I was looking at flights for May. Was going to fly BA direct as I’ve to get a flight down to London anyway and thought same airline whole way through was sensible. It was looking around £1k to £1.2k return. No idea if that was reasonable or not. But I certainly can’t justify more leg room, it just about doubled if not nearer tripled the costs.

Are Jan sales a thing for flights?

Two groups backing on to each other, 6 then 4. I will be there with both of them
Thats a hell of a lot of paperwork and from my last time at Heathrow with 5 guys with rifles, we only just made the flight. We flew Ethiopian and the staff at Heathrow were incompetant. Ethiopian staff in Addis Ababa and Windhoek were first class.

I have flown Virgin LHR to Johannesburg a number of times with firearms and found them very good. Bear in mind If you go BA you need to add £500 for rifle and ammo box return journey

In May this year it took nearly 4 hours and 9 staff to check 4 of us in. Hopeless

When I next fly down to Africa i will go Edinburgh down to the Gulf on Emirates and then on from there.

British Airways always have been expensive and Bloody Awful to Africa. Heathrow - well a good interview question is can you survive a 12 hour stop over with the candidate at Heathrow or Lagos airport? I suspect Lagos is a lot better these days.

My father has flown in and out of both Heathrow and Lagos since the 1950’s. His view is that Heathrow is now considerably worse.

Thought the gulf was in Mexico so I’m a bit lost here!

Gla was doing better flight times and Edin seems to fly into Gatwick a lot so I was looking at BA GLA - Heathrow, Heathrow direct.

Any better ideas would be welcomed though. First time going out. Should be fine but seems daunting 😂

Partly why I grudgingly decided to use the camp rifle. The SA seems like the easy bit, especially with folk that will meet and greet, sort your permit.

But can’t be bothered with that Heathrow faff on what is a ‘holiday’.

Hopefully won’t regret it at the SA end
