Hi there, I’ve been trying a ladder test today while reloading, found a nice sweet spot above max load on the hodgson website with cfe223, no pressure signs at all, should be roughly 4100fps so my question is how fast have people had success pushing the 50gr varmint bullets like blitz kings.

50grn vmax over 36grn viht 140 at about 3600 fps out of a 20inch pipe. No pressure signs and it’s not ripping the rifling out every shot. It’s really accurate and all I need. Be nearly going backwards compared to yours!
I did try n140 and it was accurate, can’t remember exactly how much powder but I got it to group nice at the 3750 mark, 26inch factory barrel 1-14, this cfe223 seems fast though

CFE223 is outstanding powder, One of my 22-250 hit 3900 and some while under maximum published data with a 50grn ballistic tip.

Is that 4100 taken from load data or from a chrono, it seems a bit on the high side?
From a 20" barrel, 50gr Vmax and 39.2gr of CFE223, I'm getting in the region of 3600fps on my chrono. Accuracy is on a par with my Norma 50gr Vmax factory, which I use as my benchmark as they are grouping at 0.5 MOA or just a touch over.
The load data would suggest that compared with a test barrel of 24", I'm only losing around 150fps.

Just a guesstimate, I haven’t had it chrono yet at the range, according to hodgson with a 24inch tube 39.8gr powder should produce 3968fps, I got up to a nice group at 41gr and mine has 26 inch barrel so hoping it’s around the 4100fps, I could be wrong though it wouldn’t be the first time

I tried going up higher with the powder weight but found that the velocity increase wasn't that much and the accuracy started to fall away, I guess the 26" barrel would allow all of the powder to be burnt and presumably improve the accuracy as a result.

I have found that on foxes, the terminal effect of 50gr Vmax does seem to be significantly greater than from a slightly slower 55gr Blitzking.

Cfe223 is an excellent choice for 22-250.

I have used it since its release here and up until 2022 I pushed 52gr AMax at 3980fps.

I couldn't get hold of any more AMax so I now use 55gr VMax which have a MV of 3840fps.

I could push them faster but not by much and using proportionally far more powder. Juice is not worth the squeeze above what I'm getting.

That’s a good velocity for 55’s I bet they perform well

worth remembering while some guns have better smoother bores that can add as much as say 200 FPS even , your working that rifle and its bore harder and reducing its accurate lifespan . Very keen on CFE in my 223 it meters really good on dropped loads speeding up the loading process . One of the things i like about the 22-250 is it does good with loads not much faster than 22 hornet up to the the 22 swift or something akin to a 223

Since we lost H4895 😭 I've stuck with N140 for my 22/250, It's just as accurate but sends them a tad slower. It has been mentioned on the site many times, 36g of N140 and a 50,52 or even 55grn bullet is a very sweet spot. I did try the CFE223 but in my R8, I didn't get the accuracy or speed I was after so, that powder is now my go-to for 32grn bullets in the 204R.

Lads what primers you are using with cfe223 ? Saw an article somewhere discussed its kind of hard to ignite. it's stupidly accurate in my 22.4" tikka but I am getting around 2600fps only with 52gr eldm. I never tried above 38.7gr. of powder though

I think you'd need a pretty long barrel to get that sort of speed
50g bullets in a 22-250 usually top out at around 3800fps
