Hi all,

So my ticket came through the other day and after much deliberation for the last month I have narrowed my search down to the following.

Bergara B14
Mauser M18
Sauer 100

The calibre will be in .270 and have a mod.

If anyone has hands on any of these rifles and can give a small review or something both positibe and negavtive.

I come to found online the Mauser M18 is basically a Remington 700, the Bergara has a composite trigger and the Sauer is just a typical Sauer.

I am going to handle the rifles tomorrow and see what feels good but its always good to hear an opinion. This will be my first rifle.

Thanks
Tom

No the M18 isn't basically a Remington 700. It's quite different to the Remington and a much better rifle even if it is a budget rifle (or at least it was when I bought mine).
You will have to look hard to see the difference between the M18 and it's stablemate the Sauer 100. Both are good rifles. I never thought that I would buy a M18 as I didn't like it when it first came out but it grows on you and I am more than pleased with mine especially since I cottoned on to the secret of easy top loading the magazine is to only put 4 rounds in it rather than the maximum capacity of 5. I'm finding that the more I use it the more I like it.
It's very accurate and has a tremendous trigger, you certainly couldn't say that about a Remington.
I would be more than happy to recommend either the M18 or the Sauer 100 to anyone just starting out and who is looking for a basic no frills rifle that just works. There are many excellent reviews on the M18 on you tube.

I've also had a few shots with a Bergara, not enough to form an opinion other than I can't remember having any negative thoughts about it.

I have a M18 in .308, love the rifle and it is accurate enough for deer at the ranges I shoot at, mine cloverleafs at 100m with the cheapest 150gn ppu ammo if I do my bit.

The downside is I like to make my rifles fit me and how I use them, and there are not many aftermarket bits for the M18. That may not bother you as the rifle works fine as it is!

Since I bought my M18 there's now a lot more choice regarding stocks and even interchangeable but plates of various lengths.
I forgot to mention that the top of the receiver has the same profile as a long Remington action and with the same drilled and tapped hole spacings. So a M18 should take any mounts or rails designed for a Remington 700 long action.

See if you can try using drill rounds which action you find easiest to work. Barrel length may be important to you and if, as you want to use a moderator, if the thing comes pre-threaded. Last but less important with .270 WCF is twist rate for over long non- lead bullets. Other than that how well....try it prone or standing or how you'd normally shoot...which has as it comes a stock that fits you best for use with a telescopic sight set at the height you'll mount it at in it's rings. And of course before all the above with that 'scope choice can you work the bolt handle?

Slight bias as I have 3 Sauer’s but they make a great rifle and are well supported by the manufacturer. Get one you will not be disappointed

I have used both the Sauer and the Bergara, I wish I had hands on the Mauser. Lucky for you, seems like you don't have a bad option. The Sauer is perhaps a little more refined IMO, but the Bergara is probably a little more adaptable.
