Actually think I got quite a good deal, considering the the bureaucracy with N.Ireland and the Brexit fiasco, have a look at the invoice!

You’re playing VAT lottery but if you get away with the 20% plus admin fees, you have a saving

It looks like they didn't charge you vat as it was going to the UK and they assumed UK customs would charge it.
As it went to N Ireland from the EU no vat was charged .

It’s usually charged when it enters the receiving country, not always the company sending it.

Yes . If it went to the UK mainland it would of been charged by UK customs but as it went to N ireland it was not charged.

NI is the uk….. it would still be charged when it got there. If lucky, it will just pass through. Otherwise it’s 20% plus admin fees

Basically if I live in London

Basically if I live in London and order from the EU the vendor won't charge vat but UK customs will charge it instead.
If I live in Dublin the EU vendor will charge vat and I will pay nothing on arrival. If I live in belfast the vendor should charge vat and I should pay nothing on arrival.
This didn't happen in this case.

You didn't do anything wrong. The company made the mistake.
The Dutch revenue lost out or maybe the company will end up losing out .
