14-17 year olds and air rifles.

No, not on ignore - but I would not say it’s definitive at all - I’ve got to th bottom of the use - that’s fine, no need for a 14-17 year old to be supervised if they have an AWC, but there is nothing that states they cannot have access to it as (like you said) they have an AWC.

How does that work if the parent or guardian doesn't possess a AWC? They only have to give authority for the "young person " to apply for / be granted an AWC.
Surely, if the YP has an AWC, and the parent/guardian doesn't, the YP would be allowing access to it without them being permitted to have access to it without the required authority?

Suspect the heart of the issue (on the FEOs sides) is that it's never been tested before?

The crux of the legislation says that even if a young person has an AWC, they are not able to own an AW.

Unlike in the case of them having an FAC, where the young person can own the firearm, just not purchase it...

How do you define owning something? My money is still on that being why the FEOs are saying you need to be there to take it in/out of the cabinet/storage for them (much like an armorer would...).

It is ridiculous though that a young person could apply for an FAC (or SGC) and legally own a firearm/shotgun. And yet for "some" reason it's not the same with air weapons...

So glad I was born without BS and Woke just common sense at the age 6 ! It was 1963 xmas the only gift we got was a 177 Diana next day out hunting tree rats and wood pigeons motive was to help put food on the table few bunnies went a long way back then in a stew.
The only nanny was your Grand mother and not some shirt living your life for you ?
PS hate the taste now pmsl

It’s sure a different world up here from the one 30 odd years ago that I loved and remember fondly; dad bought me my first air rifle at 14 ( after my hard fought campaign against my left leaning and anti mother 😂) and I spent every weekend hunting rabbits with my mate in the back waters of donside, Aberdeenshire. Roaming across farms, camping out overnight, what an adventure. Sad to think this is no longer an option for youngsters.

There wasn’t much cheap fun to be had, growing up in rural Scotland in the 90s, but hunting with my .22 webley Vulcan was some of the best times i remember and was what kick started a life long obsession with hunting.

I hope the feo find a practical solution to this issue, and wish the op all the best in getting a resolution for his young person to be able to enjoy a bit of air gun sport going forward.

Best, DP

A very good point…🤔
