Ian i know how your client feels i have a black fallow the best i will ever shoot and i waited 3 years for it and all i can say is i can never look at it or have it on the wall but i do have the memory of the hunt.

i could post some pictures of it but this is not my thread

regards
chris

In all fairness I think that with this sort of thread the other party ought to be given the opportunity of giving their side of the story, although taking the evidence of the photos at face value it would appear that their explanation would have to be rather more creative than their taxidermy!

Hello All,

Unfortunately this is a common problem. Most people can't distinguish between an excellent or very good piece of taxidermy, and a poor example. There are only a few taxidermists in the UK that produce excellent game head mounts and it is important to do your homework before handing over work. The "Guild of taxidermists" http://www.taxidermy.org.uk/ will be able to help with your choice. Never take someone elses advice, for the above reason . Always choose for youself, although word of mouth can help.
Only pay a deposit, never in full . Never choose a taxidermist on price alone.
A good piece of taxidermy is three dimentional art and should make you proud of it, always.

Offer of a replacement

Ian I known it won't be the one that he shot but if he wants a representative mount for his wall, the next time I shoot one I'll cape it and put the cape in the freezer and you can collect it when your up at GAP180. He can then either have the whole thing done or if the skull is usable have a compitent taxidermist use the hide and redo his.

Decent chap and bloody good offer well done,

Whilst i have been a member of this site many folks have recommended ianf and Mrs f, and he seems to be a chap with a flawless record, for him to post this it must be 100% right as he doesnt come across as a man with an axe to bear like some. I know nothing about taxidermy but that looks a bit worn out... maybe to much time in the freezer and a rush job???

Take up that offer and i am sure one of the decent lads from here will do a deal on mounting it for your client.. the only problem is it will not be the first deer...... Shame

sorry for your client mate

good luck f,

i know i shouldn't have, but when i first saw the pictures i laughed my ******** off, not at your clients misfortune but as the shocking attempt at taxidermy, my three year old boy could have done something more realistic with playdough(evil stuff) ffs. it looks like it was shot at chernobyl..... i do really feel for the spanish guy, waiting all that time with great anticipation of showing off his first ever muntjac to all his mates and then discovering that... jeeez.
regards, Jez.

That is shocking, had you not seen any examples of his work before giving him the job?

Like most things - the truth is even more painful! I had previously seen his work and decided I would never pass trophies in his direction. Unfortunately a friend dropped it in while trying to do the Client a favour.

See, no good deed goes un-punished!

WM70 - cheers for the offer, much appreciated. I have already offered him a couple munti & a CWD in compensation - if he ever decides to shoot with me in the future.

As to quality taxidermists, I am fortunate to have three here in the SW - all of whom produce excellent work.

Rgds

Ian

Hell's Bells, that's a shocker!!!

I just hope that your client manages to separate the woeful taxidermy (...and I can only imagine how gutted he was upon receipt, and you were when you found out) from the actual stalking experience that he'll have had with you. I don't doubt for a second that the stalk will have been first rate, hopefully the memory of that and perhaps some photographs will offset some of the disappointment.

I think that you should take that attempt back to him, and stuff him with it.
I bet you could cry, I think I would be.

i can  not believe this, im no specialist but i have seen better looking heads on 2 week old road kill.

i think this guys F, up needs to be plastered on all the stalking sites with the biggest warning of all "STUFF HIM" stay well clear of this person.

bob.

It does look a bit grim.

Not making excuses for this chap, aftre all he is a professional taxidermist, but would I be right in thinking that a muntjac is the the most difficult of the UK deer to get a realistic mount of? The few mounts I have seen seem to have dried out too much, it is the fleshy sub orbital area which always looks dessicated and lets the rest of work down.

In comparison.....................
