Location of cabinet

Hi again
I have bought a Brattonsound 2/3 gun cabinet. I've just sent my application away for a shotgun certificate.
I haven't secured the cabinet to the wall yet incase i'm unsuccessful in my application.
I'm short on storage cupboards in my house so intend to secure it to the wall in one of the bedrooms in the house but in my planned location it won't be hidden (although no one will be in my bedrooms apart from my wife/kids)
1. Would this be acceptable?
2. should i secure it and hope i'm granted my certificate?
3. should i leave securing it until i've spoken to the firearms officer?
Thanks again

They may well want/expect to see the cabinet in its proper location and test it for secure attachment when they visit you. If it's not attached yet you'll just end up waiting again until they can come back... Guidance says it should (not must) be located where "casual visitors" can't see it.

I don't know what type of lifestyle you lead, but I don't usually have casual visitors in my bedroom. Not these days 😉

Hello, What storage cupboards do you have, or under stairs , Bedrooms ok in a corner, I put my 2 on boxes so came above skirting Would not advise in Garage , Your Keys need a separate lock box , mine is in Cloths Cupboard in Bedroom away from cabinets

Think positive if you have no police transgressions and the doctors cert was fine you will be granted. Get the cabinate well fixed to the wall so when they contact you it’s in place for the visit, that removes one leg of the process

They will have a tough job tracking me from my social media, as SD is the sum total of it

nah those days are gone, no casual visitors at all

The problem with not securing your cabinet will be that they won't issue a certificate until they've checked your security. So that will delay things until they can do another visit after you have. And an FEO won't give you the nod that you'll get one because it won't be his decision, he just does the enquiries and that'll be decided later, although he might give some indication. So unless there's some reason you think why you might not be granted a certificate and it's in the balance, I'd say fix the cabinet before the FEO comes a-calling. A bedroom is fine.

boiler cupboard which does have an internal brick wall but it's shelved out for towels, bedding and shoes
understairs is where our spare fridge/freezer is

Ideally in a corner. In a former house mine was in main bedroom.
If possible fix with rawbolts. 4 in wall and if possible 2 x coach screws through base into floor.
Glos who are anal and invent their own rules want M10 resin fixings! A tad OTT.

Here's a suggestion 😅 email your FEO once they've been assigned and ask them if they're alright with that spot (on the presumption that it's been firmly fitted). Could send em a picture with it standing in place as well.

I did this with my FAC application (although I drew a rough schematic on MS Paint) and indicated how I intended to fix the cabinets. My FEO was more than happy to offer comment on suitability of location before any holes are drilled.

Depending on your licencing department (I'm in Edinburgh), but the FEOs who did my SGC and FAC also offered to come round and do the chat at home first and offer advice on fixing locations. Then do a follow up visit to confirm installation. Granted, this does add a little delay to your licence and can be more of an inconvenience depending on your work situation.

Hello, You could put your key box in the Boiler Cupboard and Cabinet in Bedroom, TVP insisted on the key box

Best of luck!

Wouldn't bother with getting a key box either in that case - unless you get specifically advised by your FEO.

Mine was more than happy to just note that it is "kept securely by the licence holder" and made it clear he was not going to write down however I was actually keeping the key(s).

Yeah the keybox will be elsewhere, bought one of them when i bought the cabinet

Ah must have hit reply at the same time 😂

Flaw of most key boxes is that they don't take that enough keys 😅 the one I initially got was fine when I just had my single breakdown cabinet. But it now sits as a decoy, as it only fits all the keys now if I do a hop skip and a shuggle putting them in 😂

I have never told my FEO where my cabinet keys are kept. He doesn't need to know.
