Royal Mail being sold.

So, what does this mean? The Royal Mail will be run by a Czech company. It does seem to be a bit of a travesty. Can they, or should they still call it "Royal Mail"?

On the other hand, it's all a bit of a mess anyway now. I think we get our mail maybe once a week and if there's anything important coming, we have fallen into going to the sorting office and asking for it rather than having to wait for a postie in a 10 year old battered looking van who won't be coming soon anyway. So perhaps if they can make it work again, maybe it's not a bad thing. I dunno. Everything British is owned somewhere else in the world these days anyway.

Hello, They have just fined RM millions of £s for poor deliveries so what will happen when they take over ??? Czech Mate would not be wanting to pay any fines ??, I can see many posties being made Redundant

All went to **** when privatised, used to get mail AM every day now I get Farmfoods, save the children and any other leaflets they are delivering at around 4.30pm.
The traditional postie was finished his round by 10am and sucking a couple if pints by half past, now they are 9am - 6pm.
It does seem strange another essential service could end up in the hands of a foreign company.

I remember 1st class delivered in the morning, and second class after lunch... as Camdig said, leaflets and circulars only theses days!!

We get so little post these days (above leaflets notwithstanding!) why we don’t get one delivery a week on a set day I do not know. Most (but not all) important stuff if requiring quick reply comes via email these days.
If something needs sending quickly like legal docs or similar, they can treat it like a courier service and send it special delivery. The world has changed since Henry VIII’s time.

When I was a postie it was an often a 4.15 am start and finished at 1.15pm.Christmas was hell .Starting and finishing in darkness due to the volume of mail. Not so much in the way of letters these days as everything seems to be e-mailed.Don’t see how it can continue to be called’Royal Mail’.

I think it already has a Royal Warrant, so unless the King takes it away when the new owners take over (and that seems unlikely) then I don't see why it can't continue to be called Royal Mail
However, you never know what the new owners might want - they might want to call it "Britpost" or something :)

Cheers

Who is the ‘we’ in your statement? It’s certainly not myself.

Don’t worry lads, it’s all part of TTK’s masterplan - let some mug with too much dosh buy it then renationalise it so he can create British jobs for British workers - who will all go on strike as soon as he pays their striking rail worker comrades their pay demands.

It’s Labour’s new ‘Time Machine Policy’ - back to the 70’s!

They’ll be reopening the pits soon too 😂

They’ll send us back further than the 70’s, more like Stone Age economically I reckon.

There was a 24hr pub in Lieth The Foot Of The Walk, it was always rammed with posties and sorting office staff from 9am or earlier, I would imagine Christmas period being a nightmare with weather and volume.
The postie that has the round here tells me they are now contracted 8-5 with minimal overtime, so no job and knock anymore.

it’s part not of the master plan to grow the economy as it will be cheaper to post goods to Czech then within the U.K. 😂
