National campaign launched to tackle firearm certificate fraud

Hopefully the police will target the fraudsters and not the law abiding certificate holders with more restrictions and costs, I fear it will be the law abiding citizens that are punished insteas of criminals actions.
Like has been alouded too how many fraudulent certificates have been removed and how many people have been prosecuted for having one?

Can the op point to an article or evidence of this "surge in firearm fraud", there's nothing in the news that I read or watch?

Modern technology could make firearms trading as secure as it needs to be and remove a ton of cost to the licencing authorities in the process. This looks like another turn of the screw to me?

There was a link to a YouTube video posted on here some tim ago showing how to spot a fake firearms certificate. I think the NCA may have produced it.

So no actual numbers have been published because there is no way of knowing how many fraudulent transactions have taken place. From my way of looking at it this is someone looking at our system and now realizing how easy it would be to produce a counterfeit licence and using it to acquire from private individuals. But looking at the guns etc used in crime most of them are illegal hand guns so you don’t need a certificate.

This is news to me, I've never heard of a certificate being forged, but I suppose everything is susceptible to fraud these days, any instances @Conor O'Gorman you can give of this happening in the news?
My cert has totally blank pages, i.e. extra pages. Not sure why they do that.

I am sure if someone used them to make new certs, and bought anything, the RFD or private seller would submit the paperwork then alarms would go off as soon as the FEO looked at the cert number. The FEO would ask the seller for security video footage, and soon enough the miscreant would be nabbed.

I have never heard of that happening, so I guess it does not happen or happens only to muppets that want to be arrested.

Drug lord wannabes bring in firearms from abroad, as even the things they get from robberies of FAC holders are not what they want for crime other than shotguns after an angle grinder: many full bore rifles are so long they poke holes in the interior side panels of our cars, when would-be murderers want short 9mm pistols or 22LR pistols with a moderator fitted. Bit hard running down the road after popping off someone with a full bore target rifle, as the noise from it in an urban setting alerts everyone for a mile, while he fumbles in vain to feed another round in manually.

Paper certs
And they say when purchasing a firearm. You have to post your cert away to seller to let them put it on your ticket

Yeah there's a clever idea ! Post your cert to someone you've no idea who they are ...yup well done !

Computer based site. With a card like driving licence ...how difficult would that be to move to ?

This posting your cert is bloody stupid
If the guns been rfd transferred then just put it onto their books , they keep it in trade and your recipient rfd puts it on your cert

No way I’d post a cert anywhere
Lost by the Royal Mail, surely not

Don't forget the police firearms had a multi million £ computer system to link all the different licencing departments the length of Britain!
Does anyone know if they got it working, last I heard was that it never worked!!
