Folks, I’m posting this just for interest. I don’t need to know what you do etc. just curious whether you actually enjoy going to work or not. I’ve hopefully set the poll up anonymously but it’s the first time trying this.

I’m currently very much in the camp of , it pays the bills. Could be worse etc. The other half says that maybe time to consider a career change. To which my thought was, most folk probably don’t enjoy their work? But then maybe I’m wrong..

Might have a slightly skewed demographic on here with a lot of folk being outdoor based vs an office job etc but interesting to see what pans out.
 
I really enjoy most aspects of my job, I love the technology and innovation. however as I’m in the Oil and Gas industry I hate the fact we have become vilified in the U.K. and some other parts of the world.

I would love to steer my children into the industry but I’m afraid the lefty liberal world will shut the industry down and move humanity into the dark ages for the apparent greater good.
 
I was made redundant from the finance industry and turned my hobby into a job by getting a ghillies job on a large Aberdeenshire estate. Graduated to Stalker and loved more or less every moment. Now retired and loving that too.....
 
I had 32 years as an arborist/tree surgeon. Loved it, 3rd generation.
Changed Jobs a couple of years ago. Now work as a delivery driver for a smallish building company. When not delivering, then in the shop/warehouse selling and restocking.
Fixed hours, decent pay and no snow ploughing/ tree climbing anymore.
Good colleagues to work with and only 5 minutes from home.
Sometimes a change of job/career, although daunting, can be a wise move.....
 
Am fortunate, I run a small company so can pick and choose who I work for but I do get a lot of job satisfaction from getting things done and moving to the next job.
Looking forward to a busy 2025
 
A definite yes. Always tell my daughter you’re at work a long time. So enjoy what you do ! Self employed for 30+ years and still enjoy going in to work .
 
I think a good definition of the question “do you like your job” would be, if they paid you the same money to stay at home as go to work what would you choose
 
When I was still working I thoroughly enjoyed my job, even though in later years most of the "rocks" I dealt with were just cells in a 3D computer model rather than the real thing
What I absolutely detested though was all the HR/DEI crap which had taken over everything, that and all the endless & utterly pointless meetings - they were just an excuse for feckless "managers" to avoid making a decision
Work = great
Anything not directly related to work = waste of time/hateful
 
I left school at fifteen (1954) with no eduction certificates of any kind and three weeks later was in the army for a twelve year stint. During that twelve years they educated me, taught me to shoot, drive, type, handle a small boat, fly light aircraft and generally look after myself. On demob I became a civilian pilot, saw the world at someone elses expense and enjoyed every day of my working life. I retired at 65, became a keeper and now do deer management over several farms in East Anglia. So, workwise, I have enjoyed every day of my retired life too. I am now 85 and still going strong if at a somewhat slower pace. I consider myself one very lucky man and not one part of it was ever planned. It just happened - aided by by a lot of hard graft and swatting in the early years.

Just like those Stanlow "Method statements", & two days to place equipment / lay out cables, & 90 minutes to do the actual job.

I always pondered this - if I had a large enough windfall to pack it in would I still do it - I always think I would do it part time but I’d probably be a lot more abrupt and direct when dealing with certain situations. 😂
 
I thoroughly enjoyed my last job, or I certainly wouldn't have stuck it.
And in answer to Tazz, I would have still gone in, even if I didn't need to.
Nothing can beat being paid for something you enjoy doing....that's fun, not work...

Other than a spell in the Rhodie Army; Game Dept in Zambia and HM Forces I've always worked for myself, or built and run small companies (with variable levels of success)

I'm better at creating businesses than I am at running or managing them

I've long come to terms with the fact that I'm unemployable

I've always enjoyed what I've done

I could not work for someone else
