Cheap IR torches

So I’ve bitten the bullet and got a 4k alpex coming. I’ve had my wraith since they came out and it’s been fantastic apart from the small field of view. The image was improved by adding a cheap laser IR torch and I can confidently shoot foxes out to 200yds. I wonder if I would be fit from buying one of these new improved ones you see on eBay, that look identical to the ones sold for twice the price and a name laser etched on? Can’t see the point on spending 100 quid if a 40 quid one will do the same and be enough for me.

Look and weight difference if there is any . Between the cheap and expensive IR .

The Hik Irs cost money but weigh 150g. Thats the lightest out there at the moment .

Whats the weight of it ? The Alpex is heavy already. The last thing anyone wants in to add extra weight.

Hello, For 200 yards your need a Laser type I/R torch in 850 nm, The Aliexpress one looks ok but your better off getting batteries in UK like from Torchy Boy (Jim) although Blackwoods do a similar Torch

I did a bit of rat shooting the other night around the yard with an airgun. It had been a long time since I had done such close range NV shooting. Turns out a Solaris even with variable dimmer and on wide angle beam is still too much for 20yds or so.

Think I need to dig out an ancient T20 LED torch or find a modern shorter range equivalent offering. Lightweight would be good as I forgot how heavy the airgun is with all the gubbins attached to it. Only take the odd shot when out with a centrefire after foxes or rabbits but with rats, the rifle is on and off the sticks every other minute. I was knackered by the ene of the evening

I am considering an Alpex 4K. I note there are 2 different wavelengths 850 and 940 in IR torches that are on sale. What is the difference apart from the obvious? I think the 850 is correct for the Alpex, if so when would you need a 940? Any advice welcome.

Like you, I also did the same and bought an Alpex 4K LRF. Black Friday sales were to tempting not to, so I had to source an IR as well. I watched a few videos on YouTube and went for a Solaris SRXV2 mounted on the scope, and the quality of the picture was brillant, seeing out to 500 yards with it easily. weather or not the cheaper eBay ones are as good I dont know the srxv2 also came with a 5-year warranty.

940 if you have fox that has ability to detect the glow of 850. 940 is the more covert option, but you lose some of the "oomppf" of the 850

There are very wary rabbits on my shoots , so instead of risking a red glow i use the 940ir for my airgun .

My set-up is near 20lbs so a bloody torch is nowt, suits my style of shooting from the truck.

I use both with the Alpex 850nm for crazy distance and 940nm for 150 or less.

My set-up is near 20lbs so a bloody torch is nowt, suits my style of shooting from the truck.

Fair play , i dont sling my rifle / shoot from a vehicle . Weight for me is a concern . Everyones situation is different at the end of the day.

That sounds very good! I was the same, fallow are showing at last light in numbers and need to make a dent over the next couple of months. Went for the non lrf version as I shoot under 200yds. Be keen to see how the image looks with the Solaris when you get chance to take some pics. Cheers

Has anyone here compared the PBIR-X with the Solaris SRX V2, Dark Engine Blade etc?

I'm borrowing an old PBIR-X but it doesn't fill the field of view on the Alpex 4K until x7 zoom. This is fine for foxing (but not ideal when scanning) and is a pain in the arse for ratting.

Do the newer PBIR-X torches have better adjustment and/or a dimmer?

Any suggestions? Happy to get a separate torch for foxes and rats but don't want to take a gamble if someone has experienced a few of the new IRs available.

Hello, These are good although i got mine many years ago from the Factory to test out, It is the 850 model, If your Night Vision works with VCSEL this torch might not compare with the PBs or Dark Engine but for average ranges it is good,

I use a 940 from Night Fox. It's good to about 130 yds with a Photon. I expect the 850 will give good range.
For ratting I have a tiny 850 which I got from Optics Warehouse in the sale I think £10. The Night fox was about £45 absolutely excellent build quality.

Hello, That is the same as my Night Fox torch but mine was a refurb ,Very good on my Photon MK 1
