Out last night.

I had a stroll around at first light this morning, it was bloody cold! Got excited within the first 10 minutes when three ‘blobs’ started dancing around in my thermal, I’d gone out with the old fashioned glass scope and soon wished I’d bolted the NV on.. after 15 minutes it was light enough for me to realise that they were hares, not foxes!.. After that I did a loop of the farm and recovered the trial cam which was equally unimpressive.

At least the view is good, I can almost see Smellys house from up here!

Any sign of his fox running your way?
Ken.
Ps. For last 4 nights I’ve been to farm and put parts of a road kill roe out as bait.
Today I will go mid afternoon and take the last of the roe and also set my fishing umbrella and net screen up ready for a session tonight.
Weather was hard frost last night but mild ish and raining today.
Gonna struggle with rifle as right shoulder is knackered so will prob take tripod.
Will hopefully be a first fox using my new ATN LTV.

A strange coincidence. Ever wondered what the blast of a rifle looks like at night with a little frost & fog. My cam is set to go off every five minutes, by a complete fluke it goes off the exact same time as the gun goes off. You can see the fox in the second picture, bullet not yet reached it. Blast is from bedroom window 120 yds away, poor sod leapt up like an electric cat all four feet off the ground. Oh well back to bed, no Jim Jam expose today, will bury it in the morning. This one gave me the run around for a week, he was a sly old fox, if that phrase is permissible? the lure of the Bakers, it feedeth the takerspaddock 3.webpblast.webp.

3.41 am could you not sleep?
It was cold last night.
D
Woken up by my phone bleeping, I was cat napping, he usually comes round by 10, but my window jams, he kept hearing me opening it, he didn't like camera flash or IR light much either, tracked him through 3 fields the other night, but each time I was about to pull the trigger he made off. Nothing escapes from the Paddock del Morte.

What I wouldn’t give to be able to shoot foxes from my bedroom window.🤗
Ken.

Bloody Nora mate, the field to your right a fox walked up to the spinney from the lane under that thick hedge just after 23:00!
You err didn't get pictures of me popping again on that trail camera did you? 🫣.

Ken, this year apart from cleaning up a family of foxes that were coming in from my neighbours, I haven't seen too many, seem to have got their numbers down. After that I usually get out twice weekly for a good walk round after dark, it keeps me fit & I get to see what's going on. Its nice to check on hare & deer numbers, woodcock & partridge roosts, but after a while if not seeing pests it can get a bit discouraging. Sometimes I switch to a pushbike, I can cover vast acreages quickly & quietly with just a therm. If I dont get any joy I keep a close eye out round the farm buildings, its been so wet tracks are easily visible its amazing how far they will come to visit an old bonfire, scrapheap, or the smell of poultry. Feeding them in is easy, I sit by the fire, keep the phone nearby & wait. I probably got more off the paddock than anywhere else, I got to 45 & gave up counting.

#3 for me.
I walked around some ground for two hours tonight, across sugarbeet fields and frozen puddles in the freezing cold for not a lot... then I just opened the kitchen window while I sipped a coffee and Freddy was coming across the bottom field from the Big wood.. hustle the gun from the cabinet and up to the attic window, 147 yards, I'll let you all know what flavour in the morning when I pick it with the two Borders. (The bait is working well :tiphat:)

#4 my big boy at last.
Walked all around the farm until he barked and gave me his local. I knew where he was going so headed that way.
It took a while but I spotted him 400yds away so I closed the gap but he was going left and into the next field.
Fortunately that field rises and he chased the hares on there so I thought he is hungry so gave a blast on my hare squeal and in he came like a train.
It was almost an anticlimax in a way. For about two weeks I've been after this fella and it came down to a classic call and him bowling in after all the times he busted me!
I spent a few moments with him....

Wow! That sounds like the life of Riley, whoever Riley is/was?
Perhaps Foxxy will chime in with answer?
Thanks, Ken.
Ps.
I visited the farm late afternoon and put some more bait down, then set up my big umbrella with camo netting in front, chair and sticks in place.
Returned at 20.00 to find it very misty. Spotter working fine out to 250 yards so no problem.
Must turned to steady drizzle, saw nothing but horses, not enjoying it so went home for 2300.
At least I had the brolly to sit under.
