anyone able to recommend a very very good place to get my beloved Sako .243 screw cut near Edinburgh. I also want a screw protector/thread cap that matches the blued barrel at the same time.

should I buy the muzzle can first and bring it, or just get cut and then fit to a mod? what should I expect to pay, give or take?

lastly, give me a MOD recommendation under £150 please.

If you contact Julie of here im sure they will be able to help ,me and a few mates have had work done by them 1st class service.

See Sean down at Border gun room, only 30 mins down the road at St Boswells.

But then Dicksons in the town centre should also be able to help you out. I`m sure they use someone local.

Think the crux is that there is nowhere "near" Edinburgh
I have had a variety of recommendations from Grant Taylor to Andy Coull (Osbourne Gun Company, Auchterhouse DD3 0QN)

I have personal experience of Steve Kershaw in York/Lincolnshire and can thoroughly recommend him.

I am also sure you could buy a new screwcut Blaser with the money they will relieve you of!

I used a chap called Tony who is a rfd in whitburn for my last rifle.

Service and price were excellent and I would recommend him.

For my previous rifle, I used border gun room and found the man there to be a crook, I would not use him ever again.

thanks for all your input guys, yes need something within 30mins drive from town ideally, keep your thoughts coming.

won't use dickson mcnaughton, not proper smiths, just send it away somewhere else and it takes a lifetime and a lifetimes savings to get it done. Sean in st boswells is nice enough if you get to know him, but I'm not 100% about the quality of the work to be brutally honest. neither party would be able to provide a thread protector cap matching the blueing either

Tony is Julie's husband.:thumb:

Always used Sean at Border Gun Room for all work. Not cheap but work and service has always been first class. Think he charged around £60 to screw cut.

I agree. Although he charged me 50 quid to screwcut and shave the forend off the stock a wee bit for the P8

Always had great deals from Sean, sure he tells you straight, but I``ve even sold to him rather than private,(without trading in or buying from him) and always got a fair price.

PKL; There's a top class rifle smith just over the bridge in Rosyth. Dose a lot of work for other dealers. Also dose work for the target shooting guys.

PM me if you want his details
