Has anyone tried this powder in 7mm-08? Currently I use N140 with 120gr BT to great results but nothing good with 140gr and heavier pills
Yeah I am aware of n550 but don't know where n555 sitting in comparison. VV don't list any loads for 7mm-08 with n555 but doesn't necessarily mean it's not suitable, their data isn't the best anywayI use n550 - 2800fps with eldx 150 grain
I’ve never tried n555 - very interested to hear your experiences!Yeah I am aware of n550 but don't know where n555 sitting in comparison. VV don't list any loads for 7mm-08 with n555 but doesn't necessarily mean it's not suitable, their data isn't the best anyway
That is my thinking as well, but I didn't have the time and more importantly the advanced knowledge to start from scratch without any published data from manufacturer. Was hoping if some competitions shooters did sort of test loads. Mainly interested in this powder instead of N550 because it's regarded as more gentle for barrels (if it's not another speculation)Works a treat under 130-140gr bullets in Creedmoor, much n such case capacity, gives generally very good ES, worth a go.
I don't have any experience, and wouldn't try even before some proof from more experienced shooters and reloaders that it works. If I get at any stage will let you knowI’ve never tried n555 - very interested to hear your experiences!
Thanks Malxwal this sort of information is helpful@Laurie is your man for shooting 7-08 in competition. My experience of N555 is that it generally shoots low ES and gives good velocity, not wild. Downside is it's a bit dirty. I use it in Creedmoor under 135gr and 284w under 184gr, and previously in 243w under 103/107gr.
It should be easy enough to extrapolate a safe starting load from Viht data on comparable chambering
Currently I am working with 150gr eld-x. I had played with few different cases but settled on Norma 308win necked down. Will check water capacity tomorrow. Highly appreciateIf you give us more details like fired case H2O capacity and the bullets you're looking at running, it may be possible to assist via Quikload and general information referencing.
Thanks a lot Laurie, I never even hopped for such a detailed information. I will read carefully everything tonight.I gave N555 a try in 7-08 shortly after its arrival:

That's in fairly heavy Lapua brass with the 160gn Sierra TMK in a custom long-throat chamber (2.95-inch COAL here) that sees charges increased by around 1.3gn for equivalent pressures to SAAMI chamber loads. Worked fine with large primer ignition, not very well in small primer brass.
