Florida Police Officer accidentally shoots red light jumper...

Just wow.

Firstly didn't the gun have a safety catch and why was there a round in the chamber. Secondly why was her finger anywhere near the trigger. Thirdly, I thought the officer with the body cam seemed pretty decent and professional so good on him. Hopefully some lessons learned...

Atrocious gun safety. Idiocy on the part of the driver too.

One notable thing is that the officer concerned has been sacked within 6 weeks. I think it’s correct to say that if a police officer incorrectly shot somebody in the UK, they’d still be on the payroll 2 months later. It took 4 months to get even Wayne Couzens fired. It reflects poorly on the UK too.

My late brother-in-law who was time served for Uncle Sam told me on my 1st trip to the States "Tread warily around the cops, they get away with murder over here" That was 30 years ago, it may have changed a little, but not a lot I think.

Is that because if we did, you’re concerned that you might be stupid enough to carry a hand gun loaded, with a full chamber and the safety off?

It was reported to be a Glock pistol.
Glocks do not have a separate safety catch as such but has a safe trigger mechanism, so most clearly unsafe gun handling by the female officer.

The Second Amendment = the second she pulled the trigger.

Believe it or not - many of the US self defence classes tell you there is no point carrying if there isn’t one in the spout….

But the lack of safety is not recommended…

i had a glock before they were unjustly banned , the trigger has a small catch on the front of the trigger that wont allow rearward movement of the trigger unless directly pulled by the trigger finger and on top of that the striker is not fully cocked the trigger moves some distance which finishes the cocking before firing , a bit like a cross between single and double action , this makes the glock a very safe pistol to carry loaded and also it requires deliberate action on the part of the person holding it to fire the gun.

and then she lays the just fired gun on the floor well within reach of the guy whos just been shot and likely not to be very happy!
