Edinburgh Harley shutting down

Another bike dealer bites the dust
Harley’s pricing has killed them off , along with the Chinese invasion ( of very good bikes btw)

Sad for the staff cause they are all fantastic .

Though there might be a few bikers on here interested in another demise

Just read about this.....sadly it leaves us with just the one dealer North of the border at West Coast - and fewer and fewer South of the border.
Very expensive bikes, indifferent back up for older bikes (ie. more than ten years old) and more stringent rules and regulations for the dealers to adhere to, to please the corporate misfits who presently run HD......... Almost like the AMF years all over again....

Harley management is certainly going all out to alienate the people who buy the products. But the problem with said products, is they just don’t cut it anymore,
The Pan American is an attempt to modernise but, is it a little to late? I think I heard somewhere that they are selling loads of them.
But overall, the bike scene is struggling with lots of dealers shutting down throughout the country.

Bought all my Harleys from EHD, but, after very poor service, to the point of being ripped off, changed to West Coast in Glasgow. Eastern motor group who own them are pretty ruthless when it comes to the bottom line and this may well be a factor. It's a shame for the staff. BTW the adjoining Kawasaki dealership is going as well, I believe.

I’d heard Kawasaki were safe but maybe not
Bought 3 bikes from them in the last year.
Last one was a Pan America a fortnight ago which is a fantastic bike , absolutely mental power and a superb ride .
My lad plans to take it round Europe as soon as he can
He’s never been off it since I got him it .

The staff in Edinburgh are amazing
Rob in parts is a very old friend of mine and is a godsend when you’re looking for anything, I hope they look after him and the rest.

Well, KTM have gone pop.

Reports of 300,000 bikes still in warehouses. Bajaj and CFMoto are the contenders to buy them out.
Got a source for that? I know end of last year they were struggling but... I'd be amazed if KTM have gone bust, they've been the biggest motorcycle manufacturer in probably all off road event for what, the last 15 years getting?

Looks like there have been some updates from what I first read. Maybe pop was the wrong term.

I think voluntary liquidation is the proper term. Like as not they will get bought out by either a Chinese or Indian company. As they are the ones buying everything.
Just been reading up on the Voge 900. Lot of positive comments and a great price. Interesting to see how that develops over the next couple of years.

With Euro 5b emissions kicking in later this year there will be a few of the larger C.C. bikes being dropped from manufacturers line ups including the Suzuki hyabusa.

So it's no surprise Harley are struggling with the line up, regarding sales. The last thing a dealer needs stuck where the sun doesn't shine is an up and coming obsolete model.

Anyway save the planet and all that **** is causing the demise of loads of car, bike, and ATV dealers and related staff.

Harleys and ATV noise machines, as a non biker I will not miss them or the wanabee gangsters that seem to pose / burble burble through town on their harleys. The UK is not Arizona after all.
I started working at BSA in 1965 so do not hate bikes per se but the excess power they have today and seeming to be being mainly used by testosterone addled yoofs (OK 1960s rockers too) but the deaths and amputations I hear about trouble me. Of course the early retiree bikers on here are in a different segment that do have respect.

I had a Harley softail in the 90's and noughties and they were then selling new Sportsters for only £5000, probably as a loss leader to get customers into the brand. Now a base model sportster is £14000. My biking days are over and now I would be nervous riding with all the potholes and careless drivers I see on the roads.

Slightly obnoxious but you’re entitled to your opinion I suppose.

( retired owner of a Harley with ape hangers and a ZX6R supersports )

Testosterone fuelled wannabe gangster ?

KTM will most likely go to CF moto as they have been using there engines quads and side by sides, the problem with ktm was you very near had to rebuild there engines every five hours on the dirt bikes if raced.

I bought my first bike ( a new Suzuki Bandit ) from Alvins in Edinburgh nearly 30 years ago. Their service was really sh*t and it was really difficult to get an appointment for the first service. Basically if it wasn't a Harley or a Ducati, they didn't want to know. I never went back after the first service and decided to service it myself. I am glad to say that Alvins is no more and I still own and ride the bandit when the weather is good. I hate when companies feel that they doing me a favour when they take my cash.
