WHICH CARD TO USE ABROAD

My wife and I are travelling to Canada for a month later this year and I was looking into which is the best card to use when abroad.

So far I have looked at Monzo and a Nat West travel rewards card - does anyone have experience of these or can suggest any others for ease of use, no fees, good exchange etc????

I have used revolut for around 10 years. You get the current exchange rate and no fees as long as you don’t exchange during the weekend. You can also generate single use debit cards, which are brilliant for online purchases from companies you’re not familiar with.

I do this, and I also have my account set up in different currencies

Revolut.
Load up small amounts and do spot purchases of dollars as you need them.
Card gets skimmed then you can control with the app and worst comes to the worst, you only have a small amount at risk.

I've used Halifax Clarity in Europe for several years now, always get good exchange rate and never pay transaction fees on purchases.
First year I used it there was a cock-up by the hotel in Switzerland and the card was locked by security. Despite contacting security 3 times, I couldn't get it unlocked. I went to the my nearest Halifax when I was home and they requested a full account of what had been tried to unlock the card.
After a couple of phone calls from the branch, the upshot was a compensation offer of £80 and the money that was already charged to the card (approx. £100) was cleared by Halifax.
Never had another problem with my Clarity card and it does get a fair bit of use.:D:tiphat:
Consequently, I recommend Halifax Clarity:thumb:

Starling is worth a look. I have a debit card from them. No fees when using abroad and always get the best "day rate" exchange rate.
I don't keep to much money in the account and just top up from my main banking app as required
