Out last night.

Bit off thread again but i dont normally go out in the rain foxing
my thought is a fox is smart and will know if it gets soaked through it will need to eat more to keep its metabolism up
and dry out im also sure that they know if the rain is going to stop and would lay up somewhere dry and warm waiting till then
you watch a fox and they will normally stick to tracks and shorter grass areas (again so they dont get to wet)
Another reason is i dont like my gear getting wet lol

so it's valentine's night and me & ant are out foxing 💘.
were getting near to our end of year tally, end of february.were off to a farm we have not been to for a while as it's a mudpit sh1t hole.on our arrival I spoke to the farmers mum and she said it's ok but a bit sticky so be careful.
first off we set up on top of some bails at the back of the farm.this has been a good spot but nothing at all around.across the valley a couple of foxes were mooching around but well over 1500 yds away.
so into the truck and off we go after them.set up and started calling,a big dog fox suddenly appeared 75 yds behind us 💥one down.
you couldn't write it,back at the farm 2 foxes near the bails😆 where we had just come from.called for a bit then back in the truck and back to the bails.
after half an hour calling a vixen came across us at 180 yds, waited till it was a safe shot 💥 number 2. nothing else came but we spotted 2 more where we had just come from 😩 but I'm not risking going over the swamp again so it's home for cake and medals.Messenger_creation_19294DC4-7CE6-4F45-8957-C82DD790FCC7.webp

I got a call fae the farmer the other day, he has a small paddock at the back of his house app 100yds square which he keeps orphaned lambs etc when they come along , his lad had seen a fox there twice when lifting bails , I got set up and decided to wait rather than call at app 7.45pm his lad came for what I think was bails from further down the track and his lights lit up the field ,after about 10 mins I see a shadow running into the field ,thermal up and sure enough a fox but it ran back out the bottom, tractor left and immediately the fox appeared and ran to the bank where he was and I seen it pounce on something rifle up safety off Zulu on (no record lol) and sent the 55gn sleeping pill on its way and heard the resounding thump and down it went, to me this fox knew things were disturbed when the tractor took bales and came in for dinner lol. Vixen and carrying was going to wait for the dog but snow stopped play lol.20250214_211755.jpg

Well I stopped checking the camera Tues due to nothing coming. Been today and a fox was there Wednesday and Thursday after 21:00 😤.
Didn't show last night because the bait has been consumed 🤦
I'll sort it today but the wind is all wrong for there...

Valentines night and it turned out great. After taking 2 roes does yesterday afternoon it was then out on the foxes.
1st one was a vixen at 184 yds , then spotted another fox in next field , no calling just waited and sure enough started heading in my direction. Took this one which turned out to be a dog fox at 139 yds 😁
Then we moved location to a favourite spot which looks over a wide area , couple of Roe and hares about no fox . After calling for about 20 mins changed to cub call and immediately had a fox racing in , muted caller , fox stopped at hedge line and dropped it at 129 yds , a fine dog fox.
So 3 for the night and off home just as the snow started falling 🌨

Not sure tbh
I have shot lots and lots of foxes in the rain - they also love it round pond edges looking for ducks / duckling etc

This year I haven’t had a chance to get out due to rain and very wet fields.
Yesterday it was dry decided to venture out to my favourite foxing field, set the caller on distress call..after an hour saw a fox hobbling along ..(it seem to me anyway) from about 200 yds coming towards it?
I have a 340 * remote control tilt / turn contraption with a Infiray R/H 50 Thermal mounted on the sun roof which helps me watch almost 360 arc across my permission whilst sitting in comfort!
This dog got around 75 yds ..stood still and was watching in the direction of call.
That’s when the .223 struck and instant lights out .
Waited another hour and nothing so called it a day.
That’s the 1st fox for 2025!
P.S I still haven’t figured out how to put video on here!

I'm lucky and can pick and choose when I go out being retired and having an understanding better half
I've had six evening out so far this year
I tend to get to my permission at sun down and stay till 9.00pm ish
the early start has accounted for quite a few foxes over the years,
so far this year the body count is 15 and still seeing more that aren't safe shots or they outfox me (pardon the pun)
