Section one back to obsolete chambering.

I have a Martini Henry 577/450 I am looking to sell, it is currently on my Section 1 FAC and I have had an enquiry from someone looking to buy it as a wall hanger, would anyone know the process/procedure and can this be done? As it’s an obsolete chambering I assume it doesn’t need deactivated?

Regards,

i did this with a schmidt and rubin 1889 , it wasn't particularly onerous but it was probably 5 years ago and times change

A friend here in Sussex studies and writes about obsolete weapons. When he wants to fire one he applies for a variation and adds it to his FAC. When he is done testing it he informs Firearms Licensing that he intends to hold the same firearm as an antique or curiosity and they take it off his licence.

I suggest in the first place you inform your FLD that you no longer intend to use the firearm and you want it taken off your licence. Hopefully they will be helpful and will reclassify it as a S.58 antique.

I know a number of people with large bore (8,4, etc.) and M.L. shotguns. They can be moved off (and indeed back on) as per 8.15 above and post by ColinJ.

Yes, quite a simple job to do. I had a .577 m/l rifle (2 band 1853 Enfield) that I wanted to shoot, got the variation and added it.

When I decided to 'hang it back on the wall' I wrote to the FLD and job done. The only response I got from the FLD was the vacated slot opened up as a 1-4-1 in another calibre.

Unfortunately the FEO gave me advice that I believe to be incorrect - he said it needed to be sent away and deactivated, but to be fair he said he “thought that was the case”…

That's patent nonsense! Please don't flow that advice.
