Which day / night scope?

Looking to purchase a day / scope but don’t have any experience or references to go off.

Looking at the ATN X-Sight 5 or the X-Celsior - interested to know how these stack up against some of the other brands.

Main use would be foxing but I’d also want to try it on a stalking rifle and take advantage of that last light.

Don't have any experience with the scopes you mentioned but a use a hikmicro at50 . Good enough picture out to sensible shooting ranges. Roe deer was 210 yards and fox about 130 yards. Just got a new ir torch a night blaster and the picture quality is better

HIK Micro Alpex 4k if you want a traditional looking scope
DNT Zulus 520R if you are happy with a less traditional shape that cost £300 less and and includes everything you need out of the box
Both HIK and DNT have excellent support and back up
You say you don't have any experience or references to go on - you're exactly the sort of customer ATN are looking for :D
But, in your favour you have done the right thing and come on here and asked for advice before wandering into your local RFD and spending money on something neither you nor he has any idea about :)

Cheers

Or Sytong HT70 LRF, just got mine and using it as a monocular looks very good, now waitng for the dovetail adaptor rails to arrive for my 452. I'm tempted to try it on my Ruger M77 WMR or pump action that has dovetails

Thanks Bruce, appreciate your reply.

Note your comments on ATN - I have a BlazeHunter thermal and it’s been absolutely brilliant. Hence looking to the ATN offerings. I also had some fantastic dealings with Peter when he was with the company. When I feel valued as a customer or have a good experience I tend to try exhibit some brand loyalty! However not to the extent of ignoring better options…

HIK Micro Alpex seems to be highly rated and worth a look. Will look at Pulsar and DNT

Hi Jagged 77
If your wanting it for mainly foxing and last light stalking IMO it has the be the Alpex and get it with lrf.
Ive owned most of the top night vision's over the years, and to me the Alpex lrf is just so good its de-valued the pvs 14's Archers, Drone pro's.
When the black friday sale was on i bought the Alpex lrf, and the Dnt zulus 520r, the first night that i tested them both same field there was a bit of moon light, with the Alpex rabbits were shootable at 250 yds without i/r, the zulus needed i/r, mainly because of this i decided to return the Zulus for a refund as to me it was a no brainer to put a bit more extra money too to get another Alpex.
Now after many weeks of using the alpex in all conditions and shooting many foxes IMO its just the best performer out there ----------if you get a lamp/laser shy fox, wait for a bit of moon light and you get it without i/r.

So would this be a good choice and then add on a laser IR?

Bruce is the only person I trust for unbiased, "no agenda" advice !

He advised me to consider the Alpex, & the DTN 520R. I checked them out at the shooting show, and both sights are very good. For me, it came down to the rifle I shoot, and being a Blaser, scopes/sights mount much further forward on the barrel, rather than on the action of a traditional rifle. So a standard scope type unit allows much better eye relief, without requiring a mount that has to extend several inches off the back.

I have a LRF on my thermal which works well, I know it it’s not as easy to aim as one in a scope but will I get that much of a benefit getting it included in the scope?
No, go for the cheaper non LRF Alpex 4K if you have a thermal with LRF, theres no point in faffing about pressing buttons to range with the scope with the potential of spooking them with the IR, you should know your holdover out to 300yds so no need for the ballistic calculator either.
Ive got 2 non LRF Alpex 4K’s on C/F rifles and use them with a thermal LRF with no issues at all, and i can mount my torch close to the scope body.

So would this be a good choice and then add on a laser IR?

Yes it could be a good choice, but you need to remember that you may need to buy scope rings an IR and an adjustable mount for the IR
Since you already have a thermal with a rangefinder, you don't really need a scope with an LRF (as long as you know your holdovers)
My comments on ATN are also based on personal experience. I have owned 4 models of the X Sight day/night scope and of those only one worked correctly. I currently own an X Sight 5 5-20LRF and while the image is good, the zoom has a mind of its own and it takes anywhere between 5 and 7 seconds between pressing the LRF button and the reticle moving to the correct position
Based on my personal experience and the experiences of many other people who have purchased X Sights, I simply cannot, in all good conscience, recommend them to anyone

Cheers

Bruce
