Best digital day/night scope at present?

Thinking of possibly using a digital day/night scope on a 22,250 for vermin both day time and into dusk. Size, weight, cost and Ir (as I’ll use additional) are not really an issue just looking for the best image day and night.

Not something I haven’t really dipped my toe into before so thought I would ask the question on pro’s and cons and peoples recommendations and findings. Any information appreciated. Tia

Ps, not looking to buy so please no floods of offers.

I think they all do the job but I would wait until the nocpix is released as the alpex pro seem a bit disappointing at night from what I’ve seen I still use a digex if not got the thermal and does a fine job still

I would definitely look through the unit you intend to buy before you part with any money. I really wanted the Alpex to fulfill the same role as you describe but just couldn't get on with it as a medium to long range day vermin scope.

I don't know what the best is because it's changing so fast every other week now.

But I have both the 4k and the C50 my preference is for the C50 it's just all round better from build features and performance I'm just a low light man here I don't use them for night, but deer hunting times, where the 4k won the race was in cost buying new, but the C50 can be picked up really cheap now used.

I was considering the new hik pro but so far it's not any better at low light than the 4k some say it's actually behind in low light, for now I'll stick with the C50.

Just my thoughts

Cost and weight I would get a Zulus.

The problem with most of these scopes is you have to fart about with buying an IR torch then adding a lot more weight to the top of your gun. I find torches quite annoying tbh.

I have a v1 zulus. It's awesome at night.

The two best scopes for performance and value out there..

I own a lot of Swarovski scopes and have hunted exclusively with them for 40 years, I have a number of compact red dots for double rifles, dangerous game rifles and driven boar rifles. I have a smaller number of various lower cost scopes on rimfire and some .223's. I purchased a number of high end thermal products about 2 years ago and recently started to look at digital scopes. I finally decided to dip my toe in the digital scope market last week.

I just purchased my first digital rifle scope and opted for a ZULUS 4K Tube-Style Digital Day & Night Vision Scope with Laser Rangefinder. I already own a Pulsar Thermion thermal scope that I use for night only hunting and wanted to try a digital scope for more daytime use with the LRF & ballistic calculator for some varmint and metal plate shooting at distance. I also wanted to see how the digital did in the last 1/2 hour of light and to see how good an IR touch would help for true night hunting.

I just took this scope out for a test drive mounted on a .22 ARC bolt action rifle. Here are my comments:

  • The 30mm mounts supplied with the scope were far too high for my application, I will buy a low set.
  • The daytime image was very good, it gets grainy once you start to zoom in past 9X or so. Digital is not as good image quality as a good quality glass scope.
  • The performance in last light (without IR Torch) was very impressive, If I was stalking in the UK this would be a great solution for use at first / last light.
  • The performance with an IR Torch was more than acceptable for night hunting when you consider the cost factor.
  • I liked the compactness and weight of this scope.
  • The scope worked well for target use, I was able to keep every shot from my rifle within 1" max. If I really tried the combo of rifle and scope was giving me 1/2 MOA.

I will be setting up the ballistic side of the scope and starting to test it to initial ranges of up to 500 yards in the next couple of weeks. There is one big downside to digital and thermal scopes that I had my first taste of in the evening after shooting this digital scope. I was out night shooting with a friend, we use a thermal monocular type unit to scan & spot with, we were 1.5 miles into our hunt, when I spotted our quarry, I passed off the scanning scope to my friend and pressed to power up the rifle thermal scope ... NOTHING! Guess who did not plug in the charging unit that afternoon! Lesson learned, these scopes are all useless without power.

Just setup an Alpex pro A50PL, I intended on using it for 80% night-time use and 20% day time. Wow, thoroughly disappointed, it's going back tomorrow. Image quality is good in the daytime, but when switching to IR mode it's sh*te. Anything beyond 180m is just mush. Using quality VCSEL torches, with variable power. The PARD DS35 gen2 is better.

DNT Zulus V2 will give you the best bang for your buck. Light, compact and relatively cheap. The built in IR is good for 300m +
