Bipod cheap Vs ridiculous £££

Looking to add a QD little bipod onto my gator gun for shooting off the roof.

Only had Harris copies in past l, but style seems to have moved on.

What do you get when comparing a £400 bipod from optics warehouse to a £16 on Amazon??

All of mine are Harris copies and they are just fine.
All have tilt and one has a swivel capability but I don’t use the swivel function because it’s impractical.
None cost more than £60 afaik.

Mine are all copies, had them years, I did have to change one or two of the nuts to a locknut to stop the leg falling off, but, I have had them over 10 years so that is ok and they are still going strong.

I've got 3 Harris bipods , love them and had them for donkeys years. Can't comment on cheap ones but imagine will do the job.

Definitely a bag for shooting off the roof of the gator.

As for bipods, some Harris copies are at least as good as the original, and some are not. You won't know until you have it in your hands

My 1954 BSA Hunter came equipped with this ancient non-tilting Harris bipod when I got it at auction. I have got a modern Atlas bipod but I still use the Harris with the BSA because the rifle shoots brilliantly with it. The springs are incredibly strong, so the only downside is that it will break a finger if you close it carelessly. So I reckon if you shoot well with your Harris style bipods then keep going.

I had a GMK one for 3 months this year and the swivel part broke, which meant I couldn’t tighten the swivel. I only ever used it at the range one day, 30 shots. Exchanged it for a haris bipod and can’t fault it. I had copies in the past and some were great and some fell to bits.

Sorry but no. Chinese copies might be "good enough" but you're implying some are better quality than Harris and they're not.

You might argue that nobody knows until they've had them all. But given the mindset in the production and marketing chain that gets the Chinese knock-off into your hands the quality just won't be there.

In addition to what you can see on the outside, Chinese skimp on everything like material thickness in critical places, thread lengths and diameters etc. if it helps to streamline the production.

To OP, while Harris style is probably the best for your requirements (just put a piece of string so that you can deploy both legs at once if needed), I'd look at attaching something on the roof like a pool noodle. Of course only during the night. If you want something more rigid, maybe a length of tubing and add pipe insulation. Dimensions would depend on your style of shooting. That'd keep the rifle clean and properly done be better shooting as well.

Of course some PRS style bag with light polymer filling, strapped to rifle forend works also. They're really light. Did I mention they're really light? But I'd rather keep the rifle clean and design a detachable support for the roof.

Hmmm.
Had a few varieties over the years but Harris have been indestructable - never fallen off or even come loose. I have had 3 in differing lengths up to 25inches for many years, heavy they may be but they just keep on doing what you need. Unlike certain marvellous and very expensive magnet-secured ones which have a mildly endearing habit of falling off… If in doubt check out the attached - just fast forward to 7:30….
