Favourable tariff awarded by DT for goods from the UK to the USA

Looking at the favourable tariff awarded by DT from the UK to the USA perhaps the EU will ship stuff first to the UK to be then assembled here and then exported from the UK to the USA? BMWs mini Oxford factory could CKD LHD 7 series beemers for export as a suggestion, but he had added a 25 per cent tariff only on car and steel imports. RR jet engines from UK to USA is a better route than those built in Berlin with the EU getting a 39% hit. I confess to not being business trained but I would think the smartphone market will collapse in the USA as they all stem from the far east.
I assume this is not to be dumped in the new political thread zone as it is about business not DT per se.

The BMW Z4 is, afaik, built (assembled from Austrian bits?) in South Carolina.........be interesting to see what happens if BMW pulls out....

I had a double building plot that I bought 20 odd miles away from Spartanburg that I planned on having a winter home built on but my long time pal who I had met when working in Germany and always got on well with lived nearby he died back in 2010 so I sold it off. I had looked at getting work with BMW there.
Now retired so sod it.

As to the smartphones. Last time around when DJT put tariffs on Chinese products I believe the Chinese “ate” most of the tariff in order to keep market share.

That would suggest either the profit margin is sufficiently high they can afford to do that, or that the government is subsidizing the price (or perhaps a bit of both).

Like you, I’m not market trained so we shall see how this pans out. I will say I am a fan of reciprocal tariffs, not punitive but definitely okay with a more level playing field.

I will say that the US has plenty of justification for some of these tariffs. There are members who despise these tariffs yet who never vomplaoned about the EU levying unequal tariffs, not to mention that they are the world leaders in non-tariff barriers to trade as well. For all the birtue signalling and condemnation of Trump's protectionism, there was very little of the EU doing the same.
Why were there 10% tarifds on US cars when hardly anyone in Europe would habe bought them? And we had big trade surpluses in that sector anyway. It was absokite stupidity. No surprise that the French were behind it.

I find it most amusing Trump will remove tarrifs on things the usa wants from China
Solar panels i phones and various other things . But wouldn't they ( USA ) be very upset if
China imposed export tarrifs of 125% on these things to the usa .
( Best not to bank on anything he says )
