20 inch vs 24 inch tikka 6.5 creedmoor

I use both a Tikka UPR and a CTR for deer hunting. I hunt from tree stands and box blinds so my style of hunting is stationary. The extra weight of the rifles allow for steadier holds and more precision.

What cal do you have them in and barrel length?

i have two 6.5 creedmoors

a 20" stalking gun and a 24'' PRS comp gun

i use factory 140gr eld-m ammo in both

there isn't 50fps between them , the 20" is a bartlein and the 24" is a krieger , both are tack drivers

my 20'' gun drops big norfolk reds at 400m

you'll be fine with a 20" gun

Super accurate, even with me driving and off sticks can get MOA in light wind, no idea on a range and rest etc

Might go for a T3x lite in 20” after all then:

Was looking at the CTR but not sure if worth it for a stalking rifle / low recoil rifle.

I was tempted with a CTR, but it was more expensive and heavier. I bought the stainless lite version and have been happy with it. Have shot muntjac, roe and red so far.
What cal and barrel length?

Thank you that’s helpful :)

Next question, light rifle (T3x lite) or slightly heavier (CTR) ??

I have also read you can swap the factory bottom metal back to plastic on a CTR so you get the mid weight / semi heavy barrel with the hunter magazine and lighter weight.
T3X Lite vs. CTR just depends on how much weight you're willing to carry, versus increased accuracy over high round count strings of fire.

And yes, the bottom metal/plastic can be swapped out for either; the outside dimensions of both bottom metals are the same.

What about general accuracy not just considering shot strings.

All things being equal, the accuracy between the two is very similar. The heavier barrel just buys you a few more shots before heat warpage and/or barrel mirage starts to affect things. If you shoot with a can, than mirage is a bit of a moot point, since the can heats up faster than the barrel (even with a can coozie).

That is one thing though; the CTR comes already screw cut. Not sure the Lite does (perhaps in the UK they do?).

20" will do anything you want in the UK. Still providing enough energy at 500 yds from a modest 2700 fps in a 130g accubond. Superbly accurate, maybe the 20" fluted barrel on my Sako is just lucky, but it's lucky with every load I've put through it. With only an 80mm hangover (LP Titan),, it's good for woodland and open ground. An extra 4" of barrel will only give around 100 fps benefit which is more than outweighed by the better balance.

A custom barrel fitted to a s/h action is very likely to give you better velocity and accuracy than a sako/tikka factory barrel which seem to be your concerns, and an added bonus it wont rust like the factory ones. Bolt and barrel fluting can be added for a cost although they do nothing for accuracy, and if you want ceracoat that would be done to a higher standard than the “known to be poor quality” factory stuff. And if you choose the right builder you will have someone that will stand by their work for the duration of your ownership, rather than a distributor who are known to give poor customer service and warranty backup.

If you are carrying more than shooting and you are looking for a hunting rifle then go for the lightest rifle possible and 20 barrel, there is no recoil on 6-5 to speak of. Depending on where you are you are welcome to come out with me and check the rifle out

I’m in Bristol, where are you?

Thank you for your kind offer.
