Gun safe in garage?

(Sorry another post) I’ve seen a few older posts on this but wanted to enquire about people’s thoughts in putting a gun safe/cabinet in an integral garage? It’s part of the house itself, has the same blocks and floor etc. so mounting isn’t an issue, it’s got an electric roller door, the cabinet would be the furthest from said door, I’ve got a camera, etc. but my main concern is temperature fluctuations? Would this be an issue? It’s not damp it just get colder and warmer than the house. My other option is get rid of the wife and use her office for storage but that seems drastic and more expensive.

Can you access the garage from within the house,ie from a kitchen door? Some forces will not allow it if you cannot.
I have mine in the garage and have experienced no issues. Just buy those dehumidifier pots, one lasts me about 7 months before it is full

Yes it’s accessible from the main house, I moved home and haven’t had a visit from a FEO to see where the safe is anyway, and I’d spoken to them a lot when doing my renewal and variations so they seemed fine with it all in principle. They never asked where my safe was going to be.

If you bolt the cabinet to an internal wall the heat from the house will warm the cabinet slightly in winter, you won’t have any moisture issues.

Not had an issue
Having it in the garage is no issue either . My feo made noises about it not being allowed but I refused to move it as I fitted it beforehand .

One thing though , fit brackets to the bottom of the roller door to padlock it in the down position, prising it up and sliding a skinny **** under it is how they get in to steal your car keys

There are downsides to it. Lack of heating, condensation and reduced security are amongst them. All of which you can partially or totally overcome. But think long and hard about it and consider if there really really isn't anywhere in the house it could go before putting it in the garage.

Short term pain long term gain?
Use the office

I got a big rad put in my integral garage. No way I was going to sit there freezing my arse off whilst my missus keeps the rest of the house at a blistering 22⁰C

The loss from the garage doors is negligible if they're well sealed. Now I've no issue with my guns so long as I don't store them wet.

I would not personally , if i did I had to then would leave the barrel clean with a layer of oil in the bore / chamber . Maybe put it in a sealed gunbag? while its in the safe . Most Police forces wont have guns in garages because they are so easy to break into

Thanks all, I think it’s a longer term plan then. Might get a thermometer out there to measure temperature changes and a humidity tester as well. Or just get a cabinet that is in the proportions I need to fit it in the house where my current one is, I just needed more storage space and accessibility

Depends upon the house but I think alot of people are assuming that an integral garage has the same sort of environment as a detached one.
Mine never gets below 10/12 degrees even in real cold snaps, theres zero damp. Any temperature fluctuations are gradual.
If you are concerned about temp fluctuations then think about what happens when you come in from a frosty session on the foxes and then bring your gun into 20 degrees! i think there’s far more issues there than storing it in a cooler environment.
Plus the fact you aren’t fannying about trying to be quiet as a burglar when putting it back in the safe in the wardrobe while the tank commander is snoring away in bed at 2am.

As far as my Mrs is aware our thermostat only goes up to 19°...
Tried setting a code on our one, with the limit set to 19. That got a lovely reception, with comments about how we are both the bill payers. Apparently setting it higher makes the house hotter faster too.

To give you an idea of what I'm dealing with, this is us in the truck. It's a nice day, I'm on 18.5 with no heated seats on ...

My wife is on 25 and heated seats 🤣
