Where to get rifle stock blanks

If a chap liked a spot of woodworking and fancied having a go and making his own rifle stock, where would be the best places/companies to source the blank from?

I had a look into this myself once upon a time, hoping to save a bit of money.

Depends if you want laminate or solid wood. You can pick up nice aged wooden blanks at auction, some timber stores, or gunmakers.

CWP seem to make good off the shelf laminated blanks.

I tried Custom Stock but they only do air rifles apparently and don't do custom orders. They might sell you a blank though. Gary Cane also.

Look to turkey for some of the better quality blanks.
However probably don’t want to use a $2000 blank for your first attempt.
I would look at lumber yards and fine timber merchants that cater for joiners and instruments makers.
You might pick up a larger bit of dry black walnut for not crazy money.

For the sake of just having a go get yourself down to a good timber yard and pick out a suitable piece of walnut.

I got a CWP laminate birch blank from here.

Buy a suitable piece of beechwood first and use that. If it works fine it is suitable as a stock in its own right. If you muck it up you've learned how better to do it next time using walnut.
