Magtech Primers - Garbage!

I have issues in the Magtec small rifle primers, my RFD offered to take them back but then there aint exactly a great deal of alternatives - so i am still using them despite having duds ( remember to wait with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction and don't just open the bolt up without that important wait time with the bolt shut )

Won't be rushing to buy some cheap primers of SD then 🤣 glad iv still got a few cartons of Fed215m /fed gold match and CCI200 CCI250 and mag tech as backup 🤔🤣

I’m yet one more member, that’s ha zero issue with Magtec. Used about 1k in LRP and a bit less in srp

Clearly there are good and bad batches.
My first magtec box - 8 / 200 were misfires in my dolphin rifle. Second batch 0/200 thus far.
Incidentally I found magtec gave 70fps more than Remington primers , and 40 more than cci. Both of the latter brands never misfired.

Got to admit I’ve had 4 magtec misfires from about 200 rounds.
After pulling the bullets my friend unseated 2 of the primers and hit the with a nail and a hammer, wearing protection.
They wouldn’t go bang.
When you have a soft strike (no you can’t tell the difference just by looking at the dent) it could start what I would describe as a smoulder. It does not go bang it burns but not hot enough to ignite the powder. Therefore it would appear to be dead after decapping, because at this point it is.

Primer materials differ. It is also not unheard of the get a duff batch (from and brand, but very unlikely) but if you have problems with multiple batches, the issue is likely to be with the rifle, not the primers. A good clean and measure of the firing pin protrusion is a good idea. Not just protrusion however because slow travelling firing pin has the same effect.

Thanks for the advice. In my case, I’m sure it is the batch of primers not the dolphin rifle. I’ve even run the stats on it …

Others here report similar findings with magtec.
