Hi all. I've just bought the new Tikka ace in 22-250 with a 20 inch barrel. I've tried Swiss RS 52 and best I can get is 3300 fos less than I got with factory hornady.
Can anyone recommend any other powder. Or have any in staffordshire I can try some before I commit to a £120 bottle. (Yes I'm tight ) 🤣.
Any help appreciated

I use N140 or N540

Both will get you up there .

I use the same load as the chap above and get the same results from my Sako 90 varmint .

What bullet and how many grains of powder? I always found RS52 very similar to Varget, as above though, if you're using 50-55gn bullets N140 is a pretty safe bet, Ramshot big game is also worth a try, and it comes in smaller cheaper tubs

Have you tried 37gn or more yet?

55gr ice been up to 37gr powder

I had a great load for 50grain vmax using 38.1grain of reloader 15. That got them nipping along a bit quick so backed off a bit. Shame you really struggle to get rl15 now.

T3x with a 22" 1:12 barrel
I've used N135 with 50gr bullets and N140 on the 55's
3400fps on the 55's and 3600 on the 50's.
45gr projectiles exit the barrel @ 3740fps with N135

Haven't pushed it past those speeds and my rifle seems quite happy/accurate.
I dit test up to 3700fps with the 50g but the resonance of the barrel opened the grouping too much (I felt) at 200/300m and I started to see pressure signs on the head.

Pushing for speed is a good way to burn-out the barrel.

@Biathlonjimmy has a 26" barrel
@lovingit you have a 20" barrel

You lose (rough rule of thumb), 50fps/inch (some will say less) - so your barrel will be 300fps slower to start with.

In your initial post you mention 3300fps being slower than Hornady ready rolled ammunition.
What did you measure the mv with ?
What did the Hornady achieve ?

So what did you get with the ready rolled ?

Copy...
//The 45th Edition of the Lyman Reloading Handbook also has a table showing Center Fire Rifle Velocity Vs. Barrel Length. Their figures apply to barrels between 20 and 26 inches in length and agree with the Remington figures. The Lyman table shows the following approximate velocity changes:

For rifles with muzzle velocities in the 1000-2000 fps range, the change in velocity for each 1" change in barrel length is 5 fps.
For rifles with muzzle velocities in the 2001-2500 fps range, the change in velocity for each 1" change in barrel length is 10 fps.
For rifles with muzzle velocities in the 2501-3000 fps range, the change in velocity for each 1" change in barrel length is 20 fps.
For rifles with muzzle velocities in the 3001-3500 fps range, the change in velocity for each 1" change in barrel length is 30 fps.
For rifles with muzzle velocities in the 3501-4000 fps range, the change in velocity for each 1" change in barrel length is 40 fps.
