Which Tikka T3 for target shooting?

As i said before, Its not banned. Just cant use it on a range thats rated for 7.62 only.

There's lots of mod ranges where you can use it still.

Im guessing they will lift the limitation at somepoint as 6.5 has been adopted as a military round recently

Not quite true sadly.

IR2 at Warminster is rated 338, we still can’t shoot 6.5 there.

It is a Total ban read this:

6.5CM is definitely allowed at Bisley, and that calibre (or derivatives and close relatives in 6.5 and 6mm) utterly dominate the PRS competitions there. If you want to achieve high scores at longer ranges (PRS, gongs etc), I think it would be extremely hard to look at any other calibre for a new rifle. Even MoD range regulations will change, eventually, even if you are into your second 6.5CM barrel by then!

If, on the other hand, you want more of a jack of more/all trades, and accept that the very sensible PRS classes mean that you will not be disadvantaged vs similarly-equipped shooters, the .308 is great fun to shoot. Harder? Definitely. Lower absolute scores? Probably, and certainly against a field full of 6.5CM shooters. But at least one VERY good PRS shooter in the south east of the UK uses .308, so you may not romp home in the Limited class!

I shoot .308 in the PRS matches at Bisley. I hope it will make me a better shooter in terms of drops, wind, positions etc. Not much evidence of it so far, but……

I've understood that 6mmBR based 6mm cartridges are quite popular among enthusiasts (PRS enthusiasts that is, not necessarily 6mmBR enthusiasts).

Also 25cal stuff is rolling out, and might not use full(ish) length Creedmoor based case.

I think in places where the wind factor is somewhat under control, like maybe formal ranges (vs. open hill etc) the milder cartridges get advantage. Or less disadvantage, more precisely. A lot depends on backstop also, how easy it is to spot misses.

I was going to ask the same question myself just see what other people’s opinion was.

Personally, I am leaning towards the Ace purely down to its chassis. I know there are plenty of aftermarket options out there but I love the look of the Ace and has all the adjustability I’m looking for.

By the time MOD complete their 6.5 templates it will be so yesterday as everyone jumps ship and chases 6.8….

i have 2 tikka,s tac a1 in 223 just for the range and a upr in 6.5 creedmoor that i bought for trips to scotlands deer but probs with leg means a can,t do the walking now so put the creed in a mdt xrs stock for a small amount of target work although gets hot after about 10 rds so now does,nt get used much at all.

Buy a cheap donor action second hand and have a custom barrel added.

You get to pick your calibre and an appropriate twist rate.

You can then pick an aftermarket stock from the likes of KRG, MDT, Competition Machine, etc.

You'll pay the same amount (or less) than a a factory rifle but you get exactly what you want.

I have one with several different barrels, all in different calibres and it's exceptional!

That said, the factory rifles absolutely serve a purpose; my stalking rifles both have the factory barrels on them and are still going strong after thousands of rounds.
Absolutely 100% agree with this! Donor action with a well-fitted custom/match barrel with appropriate length/twist rate for your chosen discipline and it will drive tacks at 1000 with good bullets! Anyone who says .308 isn’t competitive at long range hasn’t seen good Palma or FTR shooters!
