Gun owner in court for having more ammunition than allowed

Only time to worry then is if you put full mags into the safe, and don't take them into account when you purchase more.
Only time to worry is when you're at the Stalking Show and one of the traders is doing a "buy one get one free" on boxes of your favourite ammo, and you know that buying one box will take you up to your limit......

C'mon guys, are you really going home with just the one box? Really?

One box bought yesterday one box bought today ??

That wouldn't make any difference.
There's no longer a purchase allowance on a FAC, only a holding allowance.

So if your allowance is 250 rounds, and you've got 230 in the safe back at home, do you settle for the one box of 20, or do you take the extra 20 freebies as well?

I guess it depends how many spare pairs of socks you've got....

Where is this fantasy universe you speak of? 🤪
I'm not sure. Ask @pendle. Last year at the Stalking Show, just after I'd bought ammunition from one vendor, he drew my attention to another vendor that was doing a deal on multiple boxes of the very same stuff. I wished he'd told me 5 minutes before.

It was at the stalking fair.

My tkt is in for renewal. I have had my visit . Then a phone call last Monday about the quantity I can hold.
Now gone from 400 / 22.250 and 6.5x55 to 200 for each. .308 stays the same 160 as does .22 rimfire at 600

NWP reduced my allowance last renewal too.
Just the FEO trying to justify himself, I think.
.22lr went from 1,000 down to 800, and .270 & .243 down from 600 of each to 200 of each.
I will be asking for an increase next renewal.

Any (good) reason that they gave for the reduction? Do you reload?

I've had my allowances reduced on renewal as well, without being told first. Luckily I was just under the new limit but I doubt everyone they do this to is.

Have you cross referenced this with HO guidance? 160 rounds for the 308 seems to be well below, and insufficient for zeroing and practicing.

Begs the question that if you are allowed 250 rounds for 3 different calibres, giving a total max of 750, but had 260 in one calibre but 245 in each of the others, then has a law been broken and, if so, would it be in the public interest to prosecute on that basis.

There seems to be a push to reduce the amount of ammo held. The explanation I was given is that ammo stored at my house is a rigger risk of being stolen than ammo stored at an rfd so they would rather we went to the rfd more frequently than had stockpiles in our cabinets.

Kind of makes sense, unless you are shooting A LOT!!

would be fine if gun shops weren't closing every week

of course the upshot of some of this is there is more ammo now stored in sock drawers or forgotten behind some boxes in a shed which is exactly the opposite of what they want

Agreed. It’s is a somewhat counterintuitive approach
