Smashi'n Podcast fella's!, one stand out for me was the mention of that sick feeling in the pit of the stomach, when Sika down, turns into Sika runs, and then making an effort to bring things to a safe and humane end ....... at extended range,
A friend of mine who is highly regarded in the stalking world, has tried on more than a few occasions to get this "Extended" range scenario, added to range practice, & brought out of the dark & into the light, it has been, lets say, frowned upon by some deer organisations, So I reckon the NRLUKhunter system has picked up the ball.![]()

Thanks buddy, appreciate the feedback!
The recovery shot element is something we have had very frank conversations about with NGO’s/Associations. We get they don’t want to encourage long range hunting but they can’t ignore the genuine requirement for proficiency in this area. We’ve found some good common ground on the issue with them and we are confident we can move forwards with it.
Lots more good stuff to come!

This. They are an instant confidence builder and just as crucially show the extent of one's capabilities/ limitations, which ever the course of a match season will hopefully improve, along with the training from folks like Modern Day Sniper (hoping that will get rescheduled to next year)Spent a couple of decades as a committee member for my local branch of the BDS.
Helped arrange range days multiple times which were usually within “normal accepted stalking distances” (ie sub 150 mtrs)
Broach the subject of arranging “extended range days” and there was immediate resistance from those that sanctioned it being a branch activity, despite there being an absolute necessity to allow stalkers sanitised conditions and train / plan for the wounded runner where a follow up shot at extended range “may” be necessary
A wounded deer will cover quite a distance before stopping - usually long enough for a follow up
But if you have no idea of your own or your rifles capabilities in such a scenario you can never plan for it and kill the wounded animal humanely. Ultimately the inability to prepare and train for this scenario extends suffering of a wounded animal (paramount reason to train)
Secondly, inability to deal with a longer range follow up May lead to difficult tracking or call out for the folk who track wounded deer and loss of carcass
These matches and the training that is going to be offered should enhance any serious rifleman who engages in deer and or vermin control and should be embraced by the shooting organisations
The matches offer sanitised conditions where people my engage under realistic conditions, targets at sometimes extended ranges using “what’s available” support - with a time parameter
Nothing closer in my view to practical training for being an effective and humane rifleman

Our return to the fantastic Gardners guns has now been announced!
We are looking forwards to seeing you all again in November!
I think skills category has no restrictions at all? I may be wrong though?@NRL Hunter UK - would be interested in shooting a centrefire match for personal practice, but I would want to do so with my hind culling rifle and the ammo I stalk with, which both fall outside of your allowed parameters.
Any scope for another open or skills category which allows people to use kit which exceeds the specified .30 Cal 3275FPS limit and the 16lb limit?
