Hi
Has anybody re barrelled their r8 with a proof research tube ?
Be interested in
Cost
Who did it
And performance
Longevity also

Been told you can’t fire more than a few shots and get them hot or the barrels toast ?.

Thanss for any info

M Rainback and M Norris do Blaser rebarrels, im sure Mr Norris will use International Barrels, maybe others. Not sure why a Proof would suffer the problem you mention? Do you mean Carbon? Ive fitted a few proof and have one on my own rifle, all have been very accurate.

It depends on the tenon size. Proof carbon tenons can’t be turned down like traditional steel. This is why there is a Tikka specific profile proof carbon barrel.

I suppose the proof carbon tenon can be turned down but it wouldn’t look great if it’s stepped to the carbon.

looks like they do

still need the stub made etc, and that sendero light CF profile will mean some serious stock modifications, possibly affecting the integrity
I would have my old barrel stub that could get used
You would think they would make the contour to suit a blaser stock with out to much hassle ..

Any issues with first shot placement on a cold barrel? I’ve heard stories of issues which put me off a carbon wrapped barrel.

My own carbon proof on a Borden is very accurate and consistent, no issues other than anxiety when machining a near £1000 barrel and no second chances if you make a mistake on the muzzle thread,
With a steel barrel you can chop
15mm off and start again..

The steel contour is semi weight, makes an accurate but heavy rifle, and the stock can take it, had a couple myself years ago, the carbon one is quite a bit larger
