Proper Yorkshire fish & chips cooked in beef dripping 😃

Up here to say goodbye to the MiL & FiL by scattering their ashes in a place they loved to come to - both Yorkshire born & bred.

Got a great little air bnb with a stunning view - kudos to anyone who knows whereabouts from this picture out of the window - it’s stunning.

On the way back from the chippie we had a young roe doe pop out in front of us & trot along in front of the car before finding a gap in the wall to disappear back into a little spinney. No sign of any fallow yet though 🤣

I had a couple of mates who were fish fryers (one still is I believe) in Settle. One worked in the Chippy nearest the big carpark the other owns/owned the one on the town square.
Both cooked in dripping for most things.
So chippy nearest carpark used to end up with a long queue down the roadside. A vegetarian couple waited in the queue for a good twenty minutes. Got to the front to ask if the chips were cooked in cooking oil. Dripping was the reply. So is there anything on the menu you do in cooking oil they asked? The chicken was his reply. Probably a good job online reviews didn't exist then.
But they did do cracking fish n chips.

Well i will hazard a guess at Ilkley Moor.

Top fish and chips from Murgatroyds, never had any bad ones yet. Five minutes from Leeds-Bradford airport. Restaurant is excellent too.

West Yorks fish and chips are good as they generally serve Haddock.

Most of the good chippys around me have closed and are now pizza or kebab places.

Close - within about 10 miles…

You’re getting colder now… you’ve gone the wrong way!

The rock outcrop has a name & is on the Duke of Devonshire’s estate.
Bolton Abbey. I will admit to having to google the name of the rocks, 'Simon's Seat'.
I spent a lot of time at Bolton Abbey when i was a lad, down by the river. Last time i went you had to pay to get to the river, Duke of Devonshire must be short of cash.

Yep - Simon’s Seat 👍

Supper, or as I was corrected ‘tea’, last night at the Craven Arms after scattering FiL & MiL ashes.

Taking it easy today, not sure about venue for ‘tea’ tonight & then the slog back down south tomorrow.

Nice area, I grew up (got older) just up the dale from there. Depends where you're staying, but there's plenty of choice in the dale.

How the bus loads of pensioners visiting Murgatroyds survived was always beyond me. I used to work pretty frequently on Moorfield Close right behind the place. The number of rats i saw was something to behold. Grease on the tarmac around Murgatrods waste area was hazardous. The Little Fisherman a 5 minute walk down the road into Yeadon is a far better proposition.

Can't be far from this excellent hostelry:

Over in Skipton, about 10 miles & 3 days drive from where we are… just popped over to the Spar in Threshfield to get some milk & a few bits to keep us going on the trip home & seemed to spend as much time reversing to let holiday makers through on the narrow roads as I did going forwards!

Fields that were empty during the week are now heaving with cars, caravans, tents & motorhomes. The Spar was full of sun burned women in ill fitting shorts & crop tops, even more sun burned blokes in shorts & no shirt & kids who looked like they’d been basted in dripping rather than sunscreen…

Stopped in “Darrowby” on the way back for another chippy tea & the place was heaving with tourists. I’d hate to be a local up here, it’d drive me mad!!

On the plus side, took a slightly different route home & saw another little roe doe in the corner of a field, was able to watch her for a while before some moron kid in a BMW came round the bend at warp speed & narrowly missed us as he flew by!!

The new series Darrowby, the old series Darrowby or the original? I imagine the latter two were a bit out of your way from where you were.

You're right it did drive us mad. It was bad enough when it was just the summer. But some bright spark came up with the Dickensian weekends in winter. So it became more of a year round issue.
The oh isn't it beautiful comments from the litter leaving tourists wore thin too.
