Worth the five hour drive šŸ˜‹

You're right it did drive us mad. It was bad enough when it was just the summer. But some bright spark came up with the Dickensian weekends in winter. So it became more of a year round issue.
The oh isn't it beautiful comments from the litter leaving tourists wore thin too.
Yep, saw that too - a large white plastic bag full of rubbish tied up at the top & just left on the side of the road less than 200m from the caravan park 🤬🤬🤬

Mrs DB was born in Bradford & still has family in the area - she absolutely loves the place, but she wasn’t the one doing the driving… even the couple of miles (if that) back from the Craven Arms was a ā€˜no no’ for her so it was just the one point for me with supper.

Sorry to say, if she ever decides she wants to retire up there she’ll be doing it on her own!

On the plus side, those tight Yorkshiremen know how to fleece the tourists šŸ‘ - we had a wander around the gardens of a country house & then had a sandwich & a small bottle of apple juice each - I learned to speak fluent Yorkshire when the lad told me the price…. ā€œOw muuch!?ā€ Ā£21 for that little lot! - Ā£7 each for the sandwich & Ā£3.50 each for a small bottle of apple juice. I asked the lad if he had a three cornered hat & a horse - it went straight over his head 🤣

Anyway, back down south now after a 6 hour drive thanks to roadworks on A1(M) & lane hoggers on M1, the old Discovery did us proud & is still as comfortable & effortless to drive as the day I got it.

Charge like a wounded Buffalo is a fairly appropriate description. Although to be fair the pubs used to give decent enough portions for the money.
I know exactly what you mean with driving. A local can (mostly) be identified because they met you at the wide bit, acknowledged you, but barely held you up.
I met a camper van owner the other day. One of those big ugly things with a car on a trailer behind. Followed his sat nav ignored the 7.5t sign (a clue the road wasn't suitable. Then expected everyone else to get out of his way.
The Dale I love is the winter one full of rabbiting, Grouse beating and rugby. Sadly don't get to do much of any of it these days.

Proper Yorkshire fish & chips cooked in beef dripping 😃

Up here to say goodbye to the MiL & FiL by scattering their ashes in a place they loved to come to - both Yorkshire born & bred.

Got a great little air bnb with a stunning view - kudos to anyone who knows whereabouts from this picture out of the window - it’s stunning.

On the way back from the chippie we had a young roe doe pop out in front of us & trot along in front of the car before finding a gap in the wall to disappear back into a little spinney. No sign of any fallow yet though 🤣

I'm going for Simons Seat or nearby on the Bolton Abbey estate.

Edit.
Just noted the answer had been disclosed further into the thread from the OP picture
I walked up there with my dad as an 8 year old.

Is the campsite still at Appletreewick? The one down by he river. I spent a lot of time camping there with my mates when we were young.
There’s a big one just the Burnsall side of the Craven Arms if that’s the one you mean? Tents & cars literally jammed in side by side - I really couldn’t think of anything worse to do as a holiday!

Was having lunch in here last Friday with wife and our dog. Lovely pub I must say but our favourite is the Craven Arms at Appletreewick which we were in last Tuesday after a considerable walk. Probably passed DB somewhere.
I was there on Friday but - it was busy, heat seemed to have got to one member of the kitchen staff as ā€˜surly’ would be a polite way of describing his attitude when serving our food to the table… girls were much more polite!

Not my idea of a good time now either. I am going back nearly fifty years though and things were a little quieter back then.

Masons camp site is still there. been there at least the last twenty years. There may have been other farms that had camping previously. A lot used to under the 28 day rule.
