Fairly new to deer stalking, lucky enough to know a few experienced stalkers.
How long did it take you to shoot the UK 6 ?
Almost 2yrs stalking
Roe Buck & Doe
Red Stag & Hind
CWD Doe
Muntjac Doe

I once shot all 6 UK species in the same year. No mean feat as only have roe local so had to travel quite a bit.

Then went on to add goat and wild boar , so 8 UK species taken.

Nice, similar situation we only have Roe local to us.
Where did you shoot the Goat ?
What was your opinion of stalking goat? Few people have said it’s a good experience but only as a one off. Bit easy like shooting CWD

Shot goats a few times in the Scottish Borders , forestry and open hill , not particularly challenging but a new experience.

Cwd were very easy I must admit.

I was very fortunate to be the lucky winner of the GWCT Suffolk Grand Slam raffle and having discussed with Will (@Wonker – the organiser) Friday 25th & Saturday 26th February would be the dates. For those that don’t know, the Grand Slam is the opportunity to stalk all five species that reside in Suffolk (Red, Fallow, Roe, CWD and Muntjac) over two days. The raffle prize was for two guns, so I invited my old pal and mentor Tony (@benzac) who has shared much of his ground and experience with me over the years.

Here’s how it went…

Why chase the uk 6, yes I have done it but do I now class it as an achievement?

No just 6 more to add to the tally nothing more or less

I’m pretty sure if you left your rifle laying in a field loaded CWD would shoot themselves

I haven't yet shot all 6 UK species, but I have eaten venison from all 6 species on the same day (daughter's 18th birthday bbq, during covid lockdown).

To complete the UK 8, I still need boar & sika.

P.S.

It is something I have suffered (pejorative) with, all my life.

Aspire, value and admire anything and everything, only to feel it devalued and worthless, when I achieved it.

Sad really.

I’ve shot too many now to care!

I am very fortunate now to have a very nice rifle in a very old calibre and a lovely couple of bits of stalking where numbers don’t matter.

It doesn’t matter just interested in the different species and learning to stalk them. Different skills for different animals and terrain.
I’m not actively chasing the 6 but I would like to stalk them all.

Also shot Red ,Sika, Fallow, Roe, Goat and Boar in Scotland.
Shot UK 6 species of deer in England.
Never been to Ireland or Wales.

Why does it matter what rifle you have ?
Any gun in good order surely will do the job?

Ive owned just about every calibre except the 6.5 queermoore I now have the granddaddy of them all the 7x57.

I have a very nice rifle because i got it cheap no other reason

For years I wanted to shoot all six in the same year, did that then wanted all six/both sexes in the same year
Finally managed to do that
Then I wised up
Now I just take each stalk as it comes and enjoy it, whether I shoot something or not
Oh, and Sika were always the hardest to get ticked off any list
