Have things ripened earlier?

Working on the roads yesterday I found a Damson bush. I never picked them this early, the end of August is the earliest I've picked them.
The ones on this bush feel softish now and wondering if the hot spell has ripened them earlier than normal?
As I'm driving past there later i thought about going and picking a load today or should I leave them a bit longer?
TIA.

Damsons or a variety of cherry plum?
Cherry plums usually ripen in July

Most of my Mirabelle plums have now ripened and fallen to the ground, not called Harvest plums for nothing!

Fgirly sure they're Damsons though they're sometimes confused with Bullas i believe.

Chillies are doing very good this year.Cayennes are flying,Jalapeños are coming on just waiting for the Serranos starting.
All plants have plenty of flowers on them.
Last year was rubbish.

My non-expert opinion is that's a cherry plum (they come in all colour from yellow to dark purple and round or oval and varying sizes but smaller than a plum).
I think they're better than plums. I'd expect it would make a very good whisky. I've used them in gin successfully and they.often make very good jam and flans..
How do they taste?

Some of our plums are ripe but others aren’t.
Sloes are turning purple now but blackberries are still greenberries!

I agree, looks like cherry plum.

They tasted a bit on the sweet side on my palate.
I'll give them a go in the Whisky.
I only had to touch the branch and they were falling off.
