I would definitely avoid using tape if you would be happy with a cover or something on it. Bad for holding moisture in and eating away at the mod. And as mentioned above, a lot of tape has a tendency to get very sticky or even set if it gets hot.
Think sniper tape is the oneCloth or sniper tape as they call easy to put on and remove as said previously also if you have multiple mods for different calibre just write in marker pen so you always pick up the right one.
This works very well for reflections and noise used it for years.I’m not a fan of bulky mod covers. I use a length of cycle inner tube over my mods to protect them and it’s also non reflective. Easy to take on and off when needed too.

GoodCamo tape is a disaster as is shrink tubing, kills the likes of T8 mods due to rust
I have a well used T8 ! I have used it a great deal and it was one of the first Jackson brought in . Its like new ! What folks dont get is 1. take it off the rifle and let the can get to room temp and then spay a good water dispersant into the can from both ends.Camo tape is a disaster as is shrink tubing, kills the likes of T8 mods due to rust
Not in this case the rust was between the tape/ shrink tube.I have a well used T8 ! I have used it a great deal and it was one of the first Jackson brought in . Its like new ! You just missed doing this .
Very , very few folks had moderators when i bought one . I did however know loads of folks who struggled with rust - all due to condensation created when a cold gun comes into a warm home . The rust comes from the inside to the outside . Also burnt carbon within the moderator gets cleaned and a bit of protection is added during storage .
I Take moderators off the .22 LR guns as they come in the house and i never leave moderators on any gun in the safe ( indeed i put the mods in a different small safe . Soon i will not bother to put mods in any safe hopefully .
Yep I have 3 T8s and a T6(?) - all T8s have had many, many 6.5 and .308 through them over years of range days - no issues wotsoever. The smaller one has had maybe 10k of .222 through it - again no issues. Heavy buggers but if treated properly worthy of respect so I suspect the problem enjoyed by many is through nil/poor maintenance but open to correction of course…I have a well used T8 !
