Think "paying Danegeld" of promoting the end of lead will make anti-shooting campaigns go away?

Isn't 'handgun' a term for a firearm which is used held in the hand/hands - originally to distinguish it from one which is mounted on a carriage, swivel, or whatever?

As far as weapons go, what do we imagine the 'arm' part of the word 'firearm' means? I'm not sure when 'air weapon' first appeared in the Firearms Act - but 'airarm' looks and sounds odd, and if the Fleet Air Arm was already in existence at the time, the homphony would have jarred.

Slightly controversial, but if this country wasn't so overregulated the "fwits" would probably have shot the cats with an effective firearm thus avoiding the welfare issue of wounded cats and, as a bonus, the massive environmental harm caused by ignorant cat owners letting their cats roam freely across everybody elae's property slaughtering songbirds. I realise this opiniom will be particularly unpopular with urban vets.
There is a compelling logic that cats should be banned, especially on some of the islands, or at least kept indoors.
The thought of the Fwit with a .22RF in an urban environment is even more of a concern

Having dealt with a lot of cats injured by fwits who think they are a legitimate target, I'd support greater control. I wouldn't advocate banning them, so regardless of controls the fwits will still shoot cats.
a ban will just take them away from law abiding people. The fwits will use a home made catty. No amount of legislation will cope with people like that.

Sadly true. But there's decent chance of them missing completely. Perhaps a limit to 6ft lb. You can still do backyard target shooting, if you want 12ftlb, you need a reason.

I've managed to educate my dozy neighbours irresponsible cat owners cats to stay away from my garden.
It makes rapid popping sounds and it's surprising how quickly they learn.
I'm sick and tired of losing my blackbird chicks and baby rabbit's.
I use to get pheasants sitting at the back of the garden too.
Then the woke town idiots moved to the country and are royally fcuking it up with cats!

Why do people have cats and then kick them out? I don't get it. If I had a dog and turfed it out someone would say something soon enough. Bloody idiots...

Cats are pets for lazy pet owners, who don't want the hassle of looking after or exercising their pet.
Just one step up from goldfish on the want-pet/no-responsibilities ladder.

Up to a point. There are plenty of urban areas where the optimal social policy might be to arm the Fwits to the teeth and let them annihilate each other.

Actually, this was a measure I also came up with while sitting in a ditch with the rifle. Arm everyone and go on a 3 month cruise. Hopefully some of the smell would have dissipated by that time too.

Probably not, but it has shown the shooting community can engage rather than just shouting no at deaf ears.

Those who have continued to shoot duck etc with lead have no further voice in the argument as they have provided the petard with which we have all been hung.

Such engagement has bought time for the industry to innovate.

It has also IMHO 100% saved air rifle ammo and calibers under .24 from probable extiction. Long live the .22LR.

Shame there is no wriggle room for antiques and small bore shotguns.
