Pigeon Numbers This Year

Has anyone else noticed a significant drop in pigeon numbers this year. I'm based in Shropshire and up until 20-Jul when I returned to work away from home there were no pigeons about. It may have been partly due to the fact that there was almost no flattened wheat or barley around, probably due to the good weather.

Had a good season on a local pea field from dirt to harvest then stubble. 576 in total over that period.

Hello, Much the same in the Vale, Where are few years back there were huge flocks feeding on different crops, now lucky to see a few 100

Round us they are just simply - all over - the crops seem to be all ready together - farmers crops - wild harvest as in berrys etc so the birds are there but simply spread

V healthy population in S Glos no shortage in my garden. Lots of cereals cut so widely dispersed at present.

Seem decent numbers on a patch I shoot in Nottinghamshire. No more but no less than every year. Shot 46 today but to be fair I was on the wrong field.

Lots in the Borders, many roosting here in garden hedges, outbuildings and garages, I don’t shoot them anymore personally as they’ve become friends of the house. The chick in my workshop is called Bob, he’s a nice guy!

If Shropshire is anywhere near Essex then your low numbers reflect Tim having shot them all ☠️

Two years ago we had a lot of pigeons about, had several 100+ days and shot over 1000 pigeons during the harvest. Last year I noticed that the numbers were down a lot and shot just over half the previous years tally. Numbers around where I live are lower this year. I would like to get feedback from people who regularly shoot pigeons. I'm not saying that they are so rare that you won't see some in your garden, it's the large numbers on crops that I'm talking about. Normally after the rape harvest you will see large numbers on the stubble but not this year.

Bear in mind there’s been a lot of clear felling in the last few years, lots of habitat, nests and chicks killed, probably hundreds of thousands

Actually it was 2022 when I saw biggest numbers and then less and less over the past few years. I'm thinking it's probably more to do with Avian flue.

I've started shooting again local to you and have had good numbers. I was actually surprised how many there was.
