Hello

After some air rifle advice. I’ve put in the for .25 FAC and will most likely get a FX leopard or Impact.

It’s for rabbit control in areas a rim fire isn’t suitable.

Those with these models can you shoot them out the box?

And how easy is it to lower the power so you can shot rats/pigeons in a barn etc without damaging things and then switch back to rabbits at a higher power. I see both these models have the quick tune features.

On YouTube especially with the impact it seems you’ve got to do loads of tunning.

If, like me, you are rubbish at fiddling with air rifle settings, have a look at the new FX DRS range. They come ready to shoot out of the box. The reports so far have been very good. I'm waiting for my .25 to arrive! I also have an FX Wildcat bull pup in .25, an amazing bit of kit, and I never fiddle with it!
 
I have a .22 FX Crown MKll with a 500mm barrel.
With the hammer on 23 (Huma reg is on 105 bar) it shoots 18gr JTS pellets at 900fps and if I do my bit on windless days it will do pellet on pellet at 50yds. I can also turn the hammer down to 1 and it will do 580fps with 16gr JTS pellets and again pellet on pellet at 30yds.
I have toyed with the idea of upping the reg to try slugs in the standard barrel but am loathe to mess with it too much as it is so consistent.

That’s interesting. So relatively straight forward to adjust power. Just need rezero each time.
 
I've been waiting for an FAC Leopard in .22 for three months. Apparently still another three months to wait.

There are many YouTube videos showing testing results and the macro and micro power adjustments.


Personally, having come back to FAC after 18-months shooting sub 12 air, the macro and micro adjustments are one of the key reasons I chose the Leopard. Shooting Bench Rest and therefore 2mm bull at 25m, absolutely accuracy is required to properly compete and therefore, extensive pellet testing to find precisely the best pellet for the barrel. With the advent of rifles with power adjustment enabling fine tuning to the next level, those without such power adjustment find themselves at a disadvantage. Clearly not quite so important for hunting, but personally I still wish to put a pellet as precisely where I wish and so desire the ability to tweak power settings to further fine tune the absolute best possible accuracy I can realise from the rifle.

My present pest control Air rifle is an HW100KT with DNT Zulus LRF on top. I don't like the electronic display, but with integrated LRF taking the guess work out of holdover/under, I would now not go back. Once I have the FAC Leopard, the sub 12 will still be used in and around the farm buildings.
 
My impact m3 was an absolute hammer on crows and rabbits but I got rid of it as I couldn't be bothered fidling with it and it just didn't have the time. Can pick my 22lr out the safe and shoot it any time and have a quick zero every so often.

Once its set up to the pellet or slug it was fine but it was a nause to set up. There was simply too much going on for what there needed to be. I got it down to about 2fps spread over a 10 shot grouping

It only needed the 1 reg and the tunable hammer to balance it with your desired pressure/pellet weight.

As for dropping the power - it kind of works. Issue i found was because you dropped the velocity the groupings would open up as you got turbulent air due to the hammer not being balanced to the reg vs setting it up with a lighter pellet and balancing it properly.

Yes, I have a wildcat and the hammer wheel adjuster lowers power but don’t expect the same group sizes at different wheel settings. Ideally accuracy wise you would lower the reg pressure and tweak hammer spring tension for a lower power setting. You may get lucky with this but my wildcat is tuned at 44ft/lbs from a 150bar reg setting on power wheel 7 if I lower the power wheel I get lower velocity but the group size opens up a bit.
Was shooting rabbits out to 90m the other day and it’s a great tool.
I also have a sub 12 hw100 that I use indoor rather than dialing down the power on the fx

I think I’ll go with the leopard most likely. Looks smart.
 
I have an FX dreamline lite in .25 FAC and tbh its been a real faff to get sorted. I am persevering with it but if the option was there again I would go for one like the DRS which is plug and play.
I have a .22 FAC BSA R10 and that was a lot less hassle tbh i.e. find a pellet it likes and off you go.

The FX nearly got sold on but after receiving a shocking offer from the local RFD for it I am going to keep it and put it in a different stock to make it a bit shorter/ more useable.
 
If I was after another .25 FAC I would go AGT I think. But have had an empty slot for a few years now.

Lots of faffing, variables and o-rings just becomes a nuisance after a while if you are hunting.

A lot of the time, you cannot beat the old fashioned, dull and ultra reliable 22LR.
 
I have shot pretty much anything relevant FX make and quite frankly, unless you want/like dicking about with stuff this week and again next week and the week after again too because you need to 'tune' it(re-zero it), Just get the DRS as it has the simplest usability and human relevant ergonomics rather than a call of duty tacticool fantasy.

Plug n play defo way to go for me ....
Not .25 but I have theobhan rapid 12 fac in .22 and love it

Sold: Thread 'Super Lightweight Accurate PCP Air Rifle'

I might just weaken for a really lightweight accurate PCP air rifle principally for squirrel control. I know little about the current market, what's best for the quarry nor what's currently on offer so advice welcome please.

I should add, I currently have a FAC .22 air rifle (RWS 500 Plus) and bottle.

I’ve tuned both of my FX guns one .22 and the other .25 . I don’t need to touch unless I change slugs or pellets different makes & weight like you would with any airgun , sub12 or FAC air
