Hoping someone can help out here.

Trying to keep my stalking on the cheap moving forwards and bought myself a cheap 7mm-08 Steyr. Seemed a fantastic idea until I realised how scarce factory loads are!

Does any of you chaps have some 7mm-08 brass that you’d be willing to sell to save me forking out £70 for PPU brass online?

Brownells selling starline for £75 for the 7mm-08.

If you're lucky and someone sells you some fired brass, you're still going to be paying about £45 for 100 and won't "really" know how many times its been fired etc. So for just a little more money, I'd start with some new Starline brass and prep that. I've just ordered some from them to develop a different load to the load I currently use and to use alongside it.

Most 7mm-08 owners homeload because there's very little factory to buy and the factory stuff shoots awful in my 7mm-08, and I mean awful! 😳
I knew I'd be home loading for it before I commissioned the build of the rifle, and ending up buying 200 Norma brass at £145 per 100, along with all the homeloading equipment. It was a very expensive cartridge for me to choose for initial set up, but now I've got it all so will homeload for other cartridges and is another part of the enjoyment for me now. In hindsight, it would have been much easier, and much cheaper, for me to just buy a 308. But I do enjoy the rifle I now have, and enjoy having something a little different to the mainstream 😊

I also have a 7mm-08 and like you say, its nice having something a little different.

It definitely would've been easier for me to have chosen something else where ammo was readily available. Probably 6.5mm creedmoor
 
I have a spare set of Lee dies, FL and Seating, that you can have for £35 posted of you want as I'm needing to clear out stuff I no longer need. I know you initially were interested in them but my initial price was too high for you.

I only chose the 7mm-08 over the 6.5cm (still have a slot on ticket for one) so I could shoot boar, on the odd occasion. But still should have chosen the 6.5CM instead as it wasn't cheap having the 7mm-08 built.

The 7mm-08 is a beaut 👌 but not as easy to feed as many others, especially on the cheap.

Thankyou for the offer, I have Lee die set so ok on that front. I’m looking at 150 ELDX. Currently got n140,160 and rs70 at hand so need to work up a load. It’s only for roe and the occasional bigger species when money and time permits (likely paid stalk)
 
I've got an unopened packet of some 7mm-08 cases, stamped RP, but only 40 or 50. (I use Fox factory 7mm-08 ammo so I have no need to reload.) You can have them, if they are of any use in such small quantity. Send me a PM.

I think you need to be careful with any 308 cases you neck down to 7-08.
Or at least do some measuring.

I've only ever used Lapua 308 brass for my 7-08 (Blaser R93). The important bit is proper lubrication of the 308 cases before sizing down - I only use Imperial sizing wax and no problems encountered in the resizing die. Cases fitted nicely without requirement for neck turning.

I use imperial wax as well,but my chamber is tight. Sized lapua 308 cases are .001 larger than fired
 
I haven’t tried it yet, but I use lanolin oil mixed with spirits in a spray bottle and lather them in a bag before resizing. I have about 5/600 .308 federal/hornady brass. Il give it a go once my variation lands :)
