Out last night.

Charlie has been very scarce with us lately but, now almost everything’s been cut and baled , we saw 5 between 11.15 and 02.30 a.m. First one trotted ahead of us in a big stubble field and proceeded to sit on a crest offering no safe shot at all , before heading well away towards farm cottages . Smart Bugger ! A few perms later and after the Foxpro was belting out hare in distress for about 10 minutes , number 2 appeared , started to chase a hare , then sat down watching and listening. Probably to my shooting buddys’ snoring . I managed to slowly close the distance , every step like trampling on the proverbial cornflakes , lay down and nailed it at about 215 yards . A fairly well grown cub I think , but we couldn’t find it so back with the dog this morning . About an hour later we saw three in a large sloping field with bales . The wind was perfect so I slipped out of the pick up and headed up a wheeling to within about 130 yards and leant on a bale , gave a few hand calls and one came to about 80 yards , hesitated and 55gr said goodnight to him . The other two went into tall cover and played peek a boo for a while before I managed to coax one out to about 100 yards and she joined her sibling . Both half grown cubs. Last one , around 02.25 was definitely an adult and wasn’t interested in sounds we made and barely looked our way as it seemed to be eating something. I managed to get a long shot at it with bales behind it , heard a good whump but no sign of it although lots of cover around so dog required again . At least three less so a result . Pretty chilly with us

They were "out last night"
Went early to set a second camera with this group sunning themselves over the boundary, came back from other seat with a bit of time left but just watched, one doe limping (mim 17) but feeding and a fawn close to her.
More in the other field as the surrounding land is slowly being turn back over.

Went back to the same spot where we had 4 last week. Set up on stand 1 with cub call playing and spotted a fox within minutes. This fox was cautious and did a massive circle before finally edging in to 250 yds and then it looked like it was having no more so a 55 vmax was sent , turned out to be the dog fox.

Moved onto stand 2 and as we were getting in position I spotted 2 foxes below us , both were taken , another 2 cubs.

4 of us out on our last night as just let the partridges out - always bring a straggler in - which it did

Just the 1 to one of my pals
Partridges will be going out very soon, As soon as they go out the foxes turn up in big numbers.
We have just started getting onto the Foxes again with all the fields been cut now, Ive had 6 in the last few days and seen a few more which I'll have to catch up with

Always the following day with midge strikes, my scalp is like the surface of the moon this morning, think my head net must have had it, mesh aperture size has gone west I reckon.
Mozzie bites seem to blow up within minutes.
Damn Horse flys here.
2 good ones few days ago.
Need to stop wearing short pants all the time

Out last night on the rabbits , no muntjac where I am.

Anyway started as soon as it was dark and there was plenty about. This ground is only 2 fields detached from the main farm but sandwiched on both sides by a nature reserve that is heaving with rabbits.

I only shot 1 field as the other had cows in it , so shot a few , carried bag to the motor and carried on again as they just kept appearing.

Good session ending on 58 🐇
