Hi all, how do you sort out the nymph ticks in the chiller? It looks like the inside is heavily infested after a weekend cull. Is there any food safe chemical to use for or should i keep the door closed for a couple of weeks and set the temperature at 0 C degree?
How long it takes for them to die?
Tia.

I think you will struggle to kill them with 0 temp, would guess alot colder is needed.
D e powder would prob be safe, dont know of any insecticide that would be approved

Permethrin is authorised in the US, don't know if it is in the UK but there's nothing stopping you cleaning out afterwards.

Cold temps in the chiller tends to slow them down and or they fall onto the stainless drip tray on the floor in mine. I just wash them down the floor drain as part of the drip tray clean up.

Thanks. I will keep the door shut a couple of days more hoping that they will slow down little bit and then wipe floor and walls with a food safe disinfectant. I took out the liver bag yesterday to cook and there were at least 20 nymphs crawling on the bag. There must be hundreds inside the fridge.

-15 might do it, but I doubt your chiller would go that low. I'd certainly go as low as you can and then do a bleach clean. OR if you can sweep them out, tip then into a fire!

Life systems ex4, anything that touches it is dead. Had an outbreak of bluebottles during the winter, I think something had died in the chimney or under floorboards, the were accumulating on the window attracted to the light. 1 squirt, and in the morning there were hundreds dead on the windowsill, 8 months later its still killing wasps flies horseflies. Wash out afterwards with soapy water.

No it won’t go down that low. It’s not a freezer i wish i freeze them for a week.

I use Permethrin to spray clothes and inside the truck and around which is quite effective but it’a not a food safe unfortunately. I have 8 muntjac inside the fridge and it’s not right to dispose that much venison.

Take it as low as you can and skin with a coat and arm length gloves on.
