Bait stations for foxes.

I know it may seem daft, but good hygiene at a bait pipe is key... I keep checking mine every couple of days..
I am now training them to come in at a certain time, there again it may seem stupid, yet by putting feed in, and removing it at a set time, they soon learn to there on time, a bit like the Red Kites at a feeding point!

this perm is too far for that to be done hence the pipe , thats the whole idea of the pipe you can bait up and leave for a few days , not run back and forth ringing the dinner bell tks

Tin of cheap cat food wired to a post or tree, couple of holes in the bottom & pop the top open

Been using a pait pipe for over 20 yrs if you use dog food or biscuits or tin sardines and more than one fox comes throughout the night the lot will be gone but a bait pipe you can fill to what ever height you want and many foxes can come and get some feed

What do you fill it with I recently filled mine with 9 squirrels only to become a pile of mush and fur lol tks

Try to position it so it is in the shade. I'm not a fan of bait pipes tbf, I have played around with them, but when the flies are about, they are useless with any carcass.
I like to chop things like squirrels into three or four pieces and lift a bit of turf or dig a shallow hole and just cover the bait a little, it keeps the flies off, stops BOP robbing it all, and keeps it cooler and fresher for longer, also makes the foxes work the area a little more... and it's very inconspicious to prying eyes.

As this is a Stalking site like most i shoot Deer which you will get a lot of blood meat at times also i myself dont like the ribs so i freeze all the waste including the skin off the animal purposely for my baits pipes as i have more than one

Foxes really go for tinned cat food. Especially if its been open for a day or two.

Number and size of holes depends on the consistancy of the content. Certainly not so big or so many that the content drops out.

I start to use bait from October until about February. Sometimes I don't start shooting over an area until the mating season is in full swing, then all the "Arrows" so to speak are pointing towards the bait, with all the extra pi$$ & pooh drawing the horny devils in from far and wide.

Makes sense.
Also this time of year there is food everywhere for them. So can be very frustrating

Yes, bumpy, so much food at the moment, still lots of young and dumb rabbits and hares, once game shooting starts, there are the cripples as well. I guess if you are shooting near urban areas, high in foxes, they are opportunists, and will take anything. I've never had any success with the cat/dog food methods either. I find small quantities of fresh carcase buried works well for me, when it's really cold, I use whole road kill muntjac/roe. I had one area going a few years ago with multiple foxes visiting in a night, and they would rip a Muntjac carcase to bits in a couple of nights. when I started to shoot I got 16 or 17 in a few weeks.

Does the bait get taken ? If so put a trail camera up to record the times. Also in my experience bait stations seem to work much better in colder weather. Why I do not know but I’ve only had badgers on mine in the last month.

I always squeeze the bladder of a vixen out around a bait station as well, an extra attractant always helps.
