British Sporting Rifle Club Chamois Shoot - Sunday 28th August 2022 - Bisley Camp

Apologies but this annual fixture is not taking place this year. BSRC calendar ref 27/08/23). Hopefully it will be back in 2024 and as a mid-Autumn fixture as indeed it was at conception.

As re-entries are permitted those that haven’t quite determined their zero appear to get a second chance.
Shots are not marked, target is scored in the butts after all 10 shots have been fired then patched & put back up. Only way to adjust zero is if you can see your shot holes which isn't a given thanks to the dappled colour of the target area.

Looks interesting! what is ment by "sub-caliber"? anything that isn't deer legal?
The rules are the Chamois is shot with a rifle chambered for a cartridge that makes it ‘large species’ deer legal in England, ie >.240” & 1700ftlb. Sub calibre is anything that does not achieve those minimums.

Well done to everyone who attended and thank you to those who assisted in the running of the shoot in my absence. Unfortunately, I couldn't be there for a second year due to poor planning of a holiday on the Sharpham Estate, Devon.

This year's BSRC Chamois Shoot will be held on Sunday 28th September 2025. All other info remains the same as per original post.

Stutzens and lesser rifles with rails are both permitted and most welcome!

Ps:
For the avoidence of doubt the annual British Sporting Rifle Club Chamois shoot will take place on Sunday 28 September on Short Siberia, Bisley from 0830 to 1630.

The competition is shot at 200 yards and for those not already familiar with the event the target is a DJV Chamois (see below). The course of fire is 5 rounds prone, using only a small knapsack as a front rest, followed by 5 rounds sitting supported only by a single stick; the single stick must be long enough to be used in the standing position. Rifles must comply with BSRC Class B rules 1 and regs, as well as NRA range regs, if you want to be eligible to win the Stein that is awarded to the BSRC Full member with the highest score, however, ‘sub-calibre’ entries are permitted for ‘score only’. Use of an ‘HME’ rifle 2 is not permitted and muzzle brakes are prohibited.

Alongside the Chamois we also hold a modified Sitting Fox shoot, the target is the DJV Fox and the course of fire is 5 rounds sitting in 90 seconds followed by a further 5 rounds standing in 90 seconds, in both positions competitors must use double sticks. This competition can be shot with any rifle that complies with BSRC Class B 1 or Open Class rules and regs and with NRA range regs. A Stein will be awarded to the BSRC Full member with the highest score on the day. Use of an ‘HME’ rifle 2 is not permitted and muzzle brakes are prohibited.

In addition to being open to all BSRC members, including probationers, the shoot is also open to the following:
  • NRA members provided that they can produce the following on the range prior to entry being accepted:
  1. A current NRA membership card in their name; and,
  2. A current safe shooter certification card in their name for scope sighted rifle.
  • Any shooter not falling into any of the above categories provided that they can produce the following on the range prior to entry being accepted:
  1. A current personal Firearms Certificate in their name with an appropriate condition allowing the use of the rifle(s) they plan to use on ranges;
  2. Proof of current valid individual shooting insurance in their name; and,
  3. A current safe shooter certification card in their name for scope sighted rifle.
Shooters falling into the above two categories will shoot for ‘score and bragging rights only’ and will not be entitled to win any prizes.

Entry fee will be £10 payable on the day and will be on a first come first served basis, re-entries will be accepted for an additional fee of £3 per shoot (either Chamois or Fox) and provided that they do not take priority over first entry for any other competitor.

There will be no facility to zero rifles on the day; any shooter not hitting the target area with their first two shots will not be allowed to complete the series.

1 BSRC Class B rifles must be legal for shooting ‘large species’ deer in England, i.e. minimum .240” and 1700ftlb ME
2 ME exceeding 4500 joules.

Oh for goodness sake, can you please not hold this on exactly the same day as the Ealing Half-Marathon and Prof PM visiting from the US for our birthday? It's my favourite shooting event and I keep having to miss it! People who don't have my problems: go and do it, it's brilliant, and almost everyone is pretty bad at it, so don't feel self-conscious about that.
