Pulsar Helion eyepiece rubber and lenses cap replacement.

Hi all!
Does anyone know how to replace the rubber eyepiece on a helion XQ50? It’s all perished and worn and I can’t see how it comes off and a new one is fitted? The lens’s cap is also cracked and can’t see how it comes off either, it doesn’t seem to screw off.
Thanks in advance.

Best thing IMHO is to ditch the outer rotating eyecup it's crap, and source a pard NV008 eyecup it will stretch over the dioptre eyefoucs ring, especially if you can get the original pard which I think is the best one, keep the inner rubber helion eye piece and bingo it will last you for the lifetime of the helion.

D

Ps to remove the outter helion original eye cup it just pops off, try not to dislodge the inner rubber one it's glued on.

Like this.

It's also more comfortable to use.

I replaced mine. I pulled the old one off and cleaned the glue off. Then dry fitted the new one. When I was confident I could get it on I put a spot of super glue on in to hold it in place.
Thanks for that. It looks like the rubber goes right into the guts of the eyepiece in a wee groove, does it just all pull out?

To be fair that does look a lot better! It’s the inner rubber I need to replace though, it had totally perished and come away from the eyepiece.

The inner one although a little more fiddly is also easy enough to replace to be fair just glue it on.

I found the original outer one to be a pain and not offering much in the way of comfort or performance when trying to block out unwanted light in daylight viewing.

Anyhow good luck which ever you decide.

Thanks for that, I’ll buy another and give it a bash, just hope I can get all the old rubber and glue out ok 👍🏻

I needed the eye cup on my axion replaced. Thomas Jacks couldn't supply, but said they would replace it (last year) for £50. Seemed a bit drastic.
Strange! Surely if they can replace it then they have one in stock? Everywhere online says they’re out of stock for the Helion.

Optics trade say they have them in stock, so maybe worth a try.

Failing that try and source the pard eyecup or something along that line, as you don't need either of the originals for it to work.

Anyway hopefully you get sorted.

I bought my Pulsar from Thomas Jacks and spoke to them, they wouldn't send me an eyepiece, they said I had to send it in to be fitted by them. It took nearly a month which was a pain as I stalk roe (so 12 months of the year) and are out at least once a week

Are optics trade easy enough to deal with? They’re based abroad are they not?

Next question… does anyone know who has any in stock? They seem to be sold out everywhere! 😩
I've just bought one from Rural Sports. Might be worth trying them... I paid £21. It was a bit fiddly getting the old one off - left behind some crap glued rubber which I had to spend a while scraping off. However, once this was all off and the groove cleaned up the new one fitted well.

I had the same hassle getting the old one off. I got one from Simpson Brothers, it was their last one!
