Any 1422 owners on here?

I've finally ran out of my stash of the old Ozzy 40gr Winchester subsonics(new 42gr stuff is absolutely garbage).

Unbelievably accurate rifle with this old ammunition, however I'm struggling to get CCI Subs to group as tight, which were suggested as an alternative. They also appear to be louder than the Winchesters.

Any other suggestions 🤔?

Was shooting CCI subs but new batches post covid have been very variable. Was always quite fast for a 22lr sub but new batches I got 1 in 4 cracking supersonic.

Have swapped to RWS subs. They were a close second to original CCI subs and seem to be more consistent. Lower muzzle velocity and definitely quieter

Mine loves eley but went through a bad batch !
Went to RWS were ok now back on eley subsonic hollow xtra plus al toke photo of box

Thanks guys. I'll try give the Eley and RWS a go and report back.

They're 40gr, and no longer made?
The new ones are 38gr, why the hell they had to change a winning formula is beyond me.

A thought bought a slab of an old mate of mine they are spot on in the lil Annie
Looked for them couldn’t find them
Just opened slab so will take my time with them

Suggest you search for the numerous threads on here on .22lr ammo.
Mine loves old Eley subs . Magtec next. Currently using the old light blue Winchesters.

Mine loved the 40gn Winchesters, hates Eleys, was ok with RWS and seems to favour the copper three-petal CCI ones. Just like the wife, she has expensive tastes.

Browning T Bolt shoots well with SX Std and Norma both 40gn, went over to these for same reason when Eley Subs changed

This thread needs to be current as .22 ammo is so inconsistent.
What was good several years ago, might be absolute garbage nowadays. Winchester subsonic being a perfect example. New 42gr stuff will not group in my 1422, so zero chance of confidently head shooting bunnies consistently.

If only I could get my hands on a stash of the old light blue boxed Winchesters........

Zeroed at 50m. (More or less Touching holes groups of five.)

I have had and continue to have reasonable success with diff batches of Norma Hollow Point subsonics - very accurate groups in my rifle, do the job well and quiet - ideal for rabbits 20yds to 70yds.

Note These Norma are slow so often group significantly lower than Winchester, CCI or Eley subs HP would. (That's why I stick to just one batch/type of bullet, for consistency and dedicate the 1422 to just the rabbits with this gun.)

I hope this helps

Cheers for your input fella. My 1422 has a slightly shortened barrel, so wonder if that's made it a little more Ammo fussy......

I haven't actually tried the Norma's, so will give them a go.

I recently tried seven different types of Ammo in the rifle, with the new Eley 38gr given the best results. Pretty much all touching at 50yds. Worst by a long shot, was the newish Winchester 42gr which was sold in the black box with plastic ammo tray. Bloody awful, with a group of five landing within 1 1/2". I think this mirrors what most other people were saying when they first released this load. Interestingly the newer Win 42gr stuff sold loose in the small black boxes grouped at just less than an inch.

I was starting to doubt my skills and or the rifle/scope until I tried the Eleys!

My 1422 loved the old Eleys with RWS second choice. Had some recent luck. A shooting friend gave up using a 22 and gave me 500 old Eleys. Happy days. New RWS still shoot well but my rifle didn't particularly like Norma.

Funnily enough I was in my local RFD the other day, waxing lyrical about how consistent the old Ozzy Win X stuff was. Just by luck, someone had handed in an old rimfire with many boxes of the good old Ozzy Win X subs!

Needless to say I bought the lot.😉
