Boyd's Stock for Anschutz

Hi All,

Getting a replacement stock for an Anschutz rimfire has been on my 'to-do' list for many years. Fortunately Boyd's in the USA are now exporting stocks over $100.

I thought, do it once, do it right so mine was a bit more than base price. A Pro Varmint in nutmeg laminate, with the addition of front pillar bedding (the original stock has the rear pillar for transplant) and laser stippling.

Boyd's were easy to deal with and delivery was within a few weeks. All in with VAT, etc. it worked out to around £325. As I didn't 'need' it on the rifle, it was left as one of those 'just' jobs before harvest.

One word of warning for Anschutz owners....the stock doesn't fit, unless you have an ancient 64 sporter. It's not the end of the world, the more modern rifles need some extra inletting for the trigger, rear of the action and bolt release....plus the heavier barrel. Fortunately I have a joiner friend who chiselled out what was needed on the action, and routed the barrel channel to the correct size. The last job was to remove the rear pillar from the old stock and then epoxy that in place in the new one. The laminate is not fun to work on, and was described as trying to chisel a digestive biscuit. A few coats of linseed oil sealed the wood before assembly and torquing the action screws on the pillars.

The base rifle is an XIV 14" .22 LR that I have owned for around 25 years (so you can imagine how scabby the old stock was getting from truck rash). It's had a few upgrades over the years. DIP 20 MOA ral, DIP bolt knob, extraction and ejection fixed by replacing and modifying the required parts. The final piece was the stock.

It's had a Pard SA45 LRF fitted for the past year...and that's a bit of a game changer in itself. The new stock has made it a much more 'full size' rifle with a much more stable shooting platform. It's already accounted for 20 or so Rabbits last week, some at decent ranges (90-100 yards).

I haven't done any scientific tests but accuracy at 65 yards off the truck wing mirror with Eley subs is perfectly adequate for my needs:

It's made the HMR quite redundant.

So it is do-able if you are struggling for an alternative stock for your Anschutz 64 action. Yes it does fit both the .22 and .17 HMR.

Cheers

I've been toying with the idea of picking up and old Annie and doing something similar, I just really like single shot rifles.
The only thing that holds me back is the fact that they have a choked bore, so would ideally need to be cut at the breech.
