Alpex 4K or Stick With Swarovski

Dawn and dusk the next question how many knowingly break the 1hr before and after law because they have thermal and digital?

I’ll wager £100 now there are that many on the SD who are desperate to kill do all the time, just haven’t been caught

You keep banging this drum, it’s so narrow minded.
Has it ever crossed your mind that folk are actually using these scopes to maximize the legal light and STAY within the law?
With your logic anyone can just clip torch on and shoot deer after hours, whats the difference?

Their doing it all the time

How do you know ? Have you got proof of this criminal activity ?
No I have not, but human nature being what it is I’ll wager it’s happening all the time.

Put it this way I’ve BANNED thermal and digital from my cwd cull days, read into that how you will, it takes the temptation away!

when you’ve experienced the amount of paying clients I have over the years you trust no one.

I am bringing the Alpex 4k with me next time I am over:finger: it will be under a Swro cover.

Hi all,

looking for everyone's opinions if they have used a Hik Micro Alpex 4k,

You see I have been toying with the idea of replacing my current Swarovski Z3I with one and am still on the fence, I use a set of Habroks as Thermal / Bino's and think they are fantastic but I am unsure whether to change the Traditional Glass for a Digital scope.

I've seen many people raving about them but equally a lot of people selling them too. I know at the end of the day it'll be a decision that only I can make but I'd like to get everyone else's opinions on usage for stalking

Many thanks

Those desperate guys were about way before thermals and Digitals units. So with out doubt there still amongst us all right now.
I personally can put a dent in a population of Deer in the last three minutes of legal shooting. Without the temptation of going one second over.
I completed the last four months of last season using an Alpex.
It increased my average Deer cull by 50%.
The majority of them being shot on an evening during the last 5 minutes. I couldn't do that with my Swarovski Z6i.Screenshot_20251019_172630_Gallery.webp

And that is the crux of this thread, without the blather👍

This is exactly what I found, the benefits of the Alpex are marginal in the morning as the light is rising by the minute, typically I take a rifle with glass on it in the morning & after a sit up can go walkabout for a bit if I’ve not got to clear up... I can just as readily ping them using glass once the second hand has ticked past the 12 as I can with the Apex. It’s that last part of the ‘magic hour’ in the evening where it’s made a big difference to my numbers. No need to push past closing time either.

Pro’s and cons of good glass

1- battery don’t run out
2- the warranty is better
3- doesn’t encourage you to add another 10 minutes just pull the trigger later than you need to just to kill something!
4- images is better

To be brutally honest, I’m anti thermal and digital, all digital does is encouraging you to bend the rules because there are those who cannot abide by the rules of engagement!

I’ll take my Schmidt and bender over a digital or thermal any time!
My buddy’s glass Swaro needs batteries. 😱
KB.

I prefer a thermal scope over an Alpex (I have both), but the principle is the same. I have glass on nice rifles that I use more in daylight hours for "recreational" stalking but the thermal is my constant companion from around now until March when I need to get numbers. It has made a huge difference, without stretching the point of the 1 hour before sunrise (or more commonly) after sunset on fallow. I have a night licence on some of my ground, but of course thermal is not currently permitted in E&W for use with a night licence. I could easily continue on past the hour and still be in breach of that licence's terms (nobody would know) but I don't. I swap to the Alpex or a lamp because I play by the rules.

As for it increasing the likelihood of having to follow up on a wounded deer when shot 2 minutes before the hour is up - well, quite frankly why is that any different to shooting the same beast with glass 20 minutes earlier? It's still practically as dark! In reality, you are less likely to have wounded the animal because your sight picture through the Alpex/thermal would have been more positive than a grey blurry image through glass.

Using technology to make this better is a good thing and personally, I think those who don't will be left behind. I've taken on land where my proactive approach has been recognised as the differentiating factor for the landowner.

I think a bit of cynicism isn't unusual in stalking circles and sometimes for good reason. However, there are a lot of us who realise that we have a job to do but do it in accordance with the law and I think we do our community a disservice by constantly talking down how much other stalkers cannot be trusted.

NV it’s all alright until the health problem start, I’ve got a good friend who uses thermal for foxing he suffers from migraines. I know several keepers who used archers like I did back in the day they suffer from migraines.

Will certainly be interesting to see how many actually admit they’re suffering from headaches after intensively using thermal and digital scopes

That’s why I don’t use it!

My head is more important
