Out of interest, why use a match BTHP bullet for hunting when there are lots of hunting specific bullets to choose from?Recently returned from an Elk hunt in the Rocky Mountains, for those who enjoy a hunting story, I've put it down for you here:

Hornady don't list this bullet for hunting anything other than small game/varmints < 50 lbs.
Very small sample.Boat tail hollow point … 400 yards … elk … dropped within 40 yards …
Hard to doubt the effectiveness.
One animal is a small sample, but I have dozens of them. I started another thread to discuss this very subject.Very small sample.
Consensus on the US forums is the bullets is not suitable for large game as it blows up.
I just wanted to understand why the OP would choose this over a dedicated hunting bullet!
I've only had it for a bit, but I am loving the scope.Great write up.
The USO scope has caught my eye. It looks unbelievably like my Minox ZP5. Which is a good thing I may add! I know USO have been through a lot and to be honest I had written them off a while back. I’m going to take a look.

In that thread I go into exhausting detail, but the basic argument is that the consensus you mention above is wrong. Go check out this other thread:
I didn't wan't to risk hijacking another thread, so I decided to start this one.
Shot placement is more important than caliber, bullet type, and bullet size. That isn't to say those other things aren't important, just that shot placement is more important. I have spent several years putting together photos and stories depicting this theory, and we've managed to make a pretty good body of evidence. We also discuss taboo subjects like hunting with match bullets, long-range hunting, solid copper bullets, and other things that some find a bit controversial.

By hijak, I meant change the subject. The other thread is for that topic, this one is for the elk hunt.PS. I don’t think you can hijack your own thread!
That is why I posted the other thread, it goes into exhausting detail of why I have been shooting match bullets at animals for the last 20 yearsYou also haven’t answered the question as to why you chose a match bullet over a hunting bullet, which undoubtedly would be just as accurate.
So in short, the reason is?That is why I posted the other thread, it goes into exhausting detail of why I have been shooting match bullets at animals for the last 20 years
1. Its what I shoot already, familiarity and consistency are key to being accurate (I don't want to add variables unnecessarily). So in short, the reason is?
